This is a dedicated thread for users to bounce around and brainstorm on ideas for new roles, items, game mechanics or anything else to improve and build upon our beloved Mafia game.

Back in 2015 Sims made a thread asking if anyone had any ideas for roles since Lucid was looking to make some new ones (found here: https://epicmafia.com/topic/71173?page=1) That thread's dead now, but it's always good to try to bring the community together and come up with new stuff for the game.

Some of you might know my reputation for designing new roles and my passion for Mafia. EpicMafia is a pretty cool website and can always use some new stuff to spice up and remix the usual game formula, and I know a few of you have ideas of your own.

Role: Telephone

Every night, give someone a telephone. If there are two or more telephones, those people will share a meeting at night, but not know eachothers roles. Sided with the town

Role: Mystery man

If the mystery man is in the game, someone else will not know their role. The mystery man is alerted of their role night 1 and who it is. The person who doesn't know their role can still do actions, but it will be like: Action meeting vote a player. All meetings will be cancelled. Sometimes it will be obvious what your role is, but most times not. If mystery man dies the role is restored. Mystery man is on the side of whoevers role he takes. Remember the player is chosen randomly like lyncher night 1.

Role: Dictator

Every night, kills 1 person. For every person he kills he adds 1 voting power. For every person he fails to kill he takes away 1 voting power. For example if you get roleblocked and try to kill someone your vote means nothing in the day meetings. Sided with the mafia

I suggest Nomad to be revamped:

The idea behind it is that right now nomad plays too much like survivor and can easily joint.

My proposed suggestion forces Nomad to help whatever faction it ended up sided with until the end. There is also the risky strat of waiting to see what side will win before picking a side but it could result in dying without a faction.

Edit: The part about not talking before learning a new culture could be ignored but if implemented it adds an extra layer of mind games and can be a punishing factor for choosing no one on the first night.

A lot of people don’t like the Suspect role, probably because it’s too close to Miller. Maybe to improve it, the Suspect should always appear to have visited the Mafia/Fool’s target.

Butler

Chooses target and target can pick which item they want at night.

Sided with the town.

(In a way using the same logic that gambler has but with items. Will still die by granny unless you want Butler's actions to be non-visiting)

In my experience, this is a pretty common variant when there's a non-meeting mafia member. I've played werewolf games like this in real life, I think even Town of Salem has something like this. Sometimes it's automated when all meeting mafia are dead, and sometimes it's an option.

That being said, I think it should be a game option thing. It changes the game a lot if this were in play and I wouldn't want current setups broken by it.

Role Thief
Once a night, can steal someones role (just like maid but without the getting of the role part)
Turns into a amnesiac
Third party
Wins if all roles are amnesiac

Chooses two oppositely-aligned people to be star-crossed lovers.
They receive messages as if visited by Cupid.
Shakespeare wins if they both die, gets extra points if one kills the other.
Third party. appears mafsided.

Can choose to visit one person per night.
If that person dies during that night, they are saved and converted into a statue.
Statues do not vote and may not receive or send messages.

If the Bee chooses to kill, the Bee dies also.

Once a day, may make a secret deal to a player for their soul.
If they accept, the player is granted immunity for that day and the next night. Only the Devil is notified of their choice.
The Devil wins if a player that accepted a deal dies.

Avatar Cop:

Appears as cop to everyone.

Reports if someone is a noavi or not

Plague Carrier - 3rd Party

- Win Conditions: Wins if all players are infected or one of the last 2 players remaining

- Non visiting

- Any player who visits the Plague Carrier becomes infected, but is unaware that they are infected until it's too late.

- The Infected persons, spreads the plague to other payers as they visit others on the following nights

- Any player who visits any of the infected also becomes infected.

- The infected will die 2 nights after being infected.

- Nurses/Doctors/Surgeons who heal an infected player will receive a system message the following day that the player is infected.

- Nurses/Doctors/Surgeons have higher immunity then that of other roles and as such has a 50% chance of contracting the plague.

- A pathologist whom is visited by an infected will be notified that he is now infected or if he uses his night ability on a deceased player who was plagued before death.

NECROMANCER - 3rd Party

I haven't figured out the winning conditions yet...


- During the day, the Necromancer chooses a dead player and has the ability to use a dead player's night action on another player or themselves
(However a Necromancer cannot heal or protect themselves with a dead player's night action)

-Only Appears as villager to cops when the Necromancer uses a dead villagers night action and vice versa.

-If killed during the night the killer will be cursed to die following night.

-If lynched or killed, the Necromancer will appear as the last role he or she has used last
