This is a dedicated thread for users to bounce around and brainstorm on ideas for new roles, items, game mechanics or anything else to improve and build upon our beloved Mafia game.
Back in 2015 Sims made a thread asking if anyone had any ideas for roles since Lucid was looking to make some new ones (found here: https://epicmafia.com/topic/71173?page=1) That thread's dead now, but it's always good to try to bring the community together and come up with new stuff for the game.
Some of you might know my reputation for designing new roles and my passion for Mafia. EpicMafia is a pretty cool website and can always use some new stuff to spice up and remix the usual game formula, and I know a few of you have ideas of your own.
NOTE: If you're here to complain about Sandbox moderation or the site mods, please don't.
I have debated renaming this to Batter and having it get 'strikes' instead of losing petals. Partly because there's no roles about sports so far and also because I suggest too many roles around love.
- Chooses a player at night. - If that person says any EM vocab (fos omgus inno blue nl cc lylo mylo sk bw gy fmpov wifom hypo rl), a username picture (%[username]), or an emote, they die. - Sided with the mafia.
i'd remove the bold part from slasher since there's really no reason for it. the slasher should be unique in having no reveal similar to how the sniper and deputy are unique in having no reveal guns, it's not the item it's the role
i don't know what possible purpose soylent blue could serve, if you're still thinking about making famine without baker it just gives mafia autowin
**Exorcist** Once per game, the exorcist can choose a user to perform an exorcism on. The exorcism reveals all of the users' "demons" and gives the exorcist all the information from the user. Their role, who they've visited, etc.. Sided with the village.
**Devil** Each day can pick a user to make a deal with the devil at night. Offers knives, vests, bread, guns, keys, etc in exchange for certain disadvantages. Having their vote cancelled, dying in X days, etc (help suggest some deals that can be made) Wins if all remaining players have made a deal with the devil. Sided with the thirds
Paladin Can choose two users during the night, if user A is killed, then user B will take their place and die instead of user A. Wins if kills are switched thrice. Sided with the thirds.
Scapegoat -When no one is lynched, the Scapegoat dies instead. -When this happens, the Scapegoat chooses who gets to vote the following day. -Does not choose who gets to vote if they die any other way. -Sided with village.
Retributionist The retributionist can choose a user to avenge each night. If that user passes away during the night, the retributionist receives a gun. Sided with the village.
Overseer Once a day for a maximum of three days, the overseer can choose to oversee all meetings at night. The overseer can see sidekick/other third meeting, mafia meeting, cult meeting, mason meeting, chef meeting, jailer/gator meeting, etc but cannot differentiate between any of them. Sided with the village.
Manipulator During the night, the manipulator can choose one user to manipulate. During the day, the manipulator will cancel out that user's vote and the manipulator will be given two votes as if they are manipulating the manipulated user to vote with them. If the manipulation does not go through due to roleblock, etc, the manipulator only has one vote. Sided with the mafia.
Director Selects two players each night to stage a meeting. Player A will appear to have visited player B and only player B. The Director cannot select himself. Sided with the mafia.
Filibuster Will only be lynched if every non-mafia member votes for it. Sided with the mafia.
Slasher Every night, if not visited, will craft a knife for itself. The knife will never reveal upon use. If shot or killed, the killer will receive a regular knife from the Slasher's collection. This knife functions like a Slasher's knife (no reveal.) Sided with the Mafia, does not meet.
Soylent Blue Visits one person at night. If that person dies, all members of the Mafia will receive one "long pig" (functions the same as a loaf of bread.) Sided with the Mafia.
These three guys should definitely be the next mafia roles. Also, I fixed Ben's knife >.>
And here's a bonus Soylent Blue icon: It lacks the pure dark colors the Mafia usually has, but I think it's a nice change for the palette, and also it looks very unique.
Cannibal sounds really good as a way to incorporate roleblocks and saves into it! Meaning that the maf will have to keep killing in order to survive and they can't go too long without getting a successful kill.
My only gripe (and a very cosmetic gripe at that) is that Cannibal almost implies that he's eating the corpses himself. Perhaps naming it something like Hannibal or some kinda reference to Soylent Green?

With more setups potentially based around famine, I agree that the mafia needs a way of getting their own sustenance. Maybe a Cannibal role could help with that? The mafia harvests their victims for food at night during a famine... gruesome, but could be interesting with role blocks or medical/protective roles in play.
The idea needs a lot of tweaking, though. It's really rough and late at night, so if you see this, Lucid, wait for me to fix it up later.
If you're thinking of adding a "start from famine" feature, might I suggest some sort of mafia-sided Baker? Perhaps called something like Caterer?
For example:
Caterer • Can give two pieces of bread every night. • Once the Caterer is dead, the famine begins. Whoever does not have bread for 3 days will die from famine. • Sided with the mafia.
Some adjustments could be that it could only give one bread or that the famine of the Caterer only affects the mafia? I just think this would be very interesting in certain setups where both teams have to focus on winning whilst protecting themselves from the famine.
