This is a dedicated thread for users to bounce around and brainstorm on ideas for new roles, items, game mechanics or anything else to improve and build upon our beloved Mafia game.

Back in 2015 Sims made a thread asking if anyone had any ideas for roles since Lucid was looking to make some new ones (found here: https://epicmafia.com/topic/71173?page=1) That thread's dead now, but it's always good to try to bring the community together and come up with new stuff for the game.

Some of you might know my reputation for designing new roles and my passion for Mafia. EpicMafia is a pretty cool website and can always use some new stuff to spice up and remix the usual game formula, and I know a few of you have ideas of your own.

first one is a watcher, second one is the mechanic suggestion, fifth one removes the purpose of putting lk in a setup

I think a few of them are pretty good and could be developed into entirely separate roles or mechanics. Thanks for the new workload!

Recolor arsonist/lawyer and change the match to a wrench and the gas can to a toolbox.

creates tripwire alarms which it installs at another player's "house," anyone who visits them triggers a notification that they were caught visiting the next day.

fixes sabotaged items.

gets a prompt when holding the bomb (red wire/blue wire/green wire). if the correct wire is chosen, the bomb is defused. if not, the bomb detonates.

can offer "uproot" option to tree so that they may resume their role as a voting member of the town once per game.

can "fix the lights" after a lightkeeper death.

just spitballing here, really.

Engineer

-Can switch received item to a different item of their choice

-Sided with whatever you want

- All fabricated items the engineer receives will be fixed.
- The engineer cannot be sabotaged.
- 50% chance to prevent bomb explosions
- Sided with the village.

i don't think village has any way to combat fab/sab currently so here's this

mechanic is a better name but you seem to have your heart set on engines

tbh I feel like the prisoner role has some interesting potential while being fairly simple (prisoners can clear each other, but mafia can also cc)

That one sounds funny, but what is half a day?
I think it would be entertaining that when the bureaucrat releases all reports, everyone is silenced. So someone can receive new information that would affect their vote (or pretend to), but other people would not know what until the next day.

Another Useless Village Role:

Prisoner (like Prisoner's Dilemma)
-Vote only counts if all prisoners in a game vote for the same person. Otherwise, vote weight is zero.

Because people were complaining there are not enough simple town roles that are not usefull.

Goat

Sacrafice - When killed / lynched blocks all actions that do not instantly kill a person. (Everything except mafia kill/town kill/ third kill. Roles that randomly visit, do not visit. Day actions next day also do not work except guns and knifes.)

Cult Sacrafice - If culted, Cult wins the game, Goat dies.

Acts like useless Virgin.

-Begins the game with three petals
-Every time it is visited, will lose one petal
-Dies if it loses all three petals
-Wins if it survives with one or more petals

(Systems messages (to self): [Losing 1st Petal] "They love me not...", [Losing 2nd Petal] "They love me..." [Losing 3rd Petal] "They love me not!")

Idea for this came with the intrigue of a 3rd party role that has to win while trying to avoid people visiting it. I figured three visits = death would be fair enough, debated between that or two.
