This is a dedicated thread for users to bounce around and brainstorm on ideas for new roles, items, game mechanics or anything else to improve and build upon our beloved Mafia game.
Back in 2015 Sims made a thread asking if anyone had any ideas for roles since Lucid was looking to make some new ones (found here: https://epicmafia.com/topic/71173?page=1) That thread's dead now, but it's always good to try to bring the community together and come up with new stuff for the game.
Some of you might know my reputation for designing new roles and my passion for Mafia. EpicMafia is a pretty cool website and can always use some new stuff to spice up and remix the usual game formula, and I know a few of you have ideas of your own.
NOTE: If you're here to complain about Sandbox moderation or the site mods, please don't.
Gonna suggest some fun mythical creature animal roles because I ran out of ideas for good human roles.
~Banshee - Visits a player each night - Deafens the player the following day - If any, one additional visitor will die that night - Wins if they reach three kills or outnumber the town - Sided with the 3rd party
~Doppelganger - Visits one player each night - Learns and obtains a suit of that players role - Shares an additional night meeting until he chooses a new player - Wins if he survives - Sided with the 3rd party
~Imp (feel free to suggest something better) This is a bit confusing but it could be fun. I was thinking that Imp has its own personal jail and it kidnaps a player each night, adding them to its jail. The jailed players would be completely absent from town meetings for the duration of their jailed period. Essentially fiddled, blinded, and unable to vote. They would also be immune to all actions, including reports from other players. Every night, the jailed players would share a meeting with the Imp. The Imp would show as Imp, but the jailed players would show as their name. Together, the players "pick" one player, trying to guess the Imp. If they guess incorrectly, nothing happens. If they guess correctly, the Imp is killed and the jailed players are return to normal. Imp would win if a majority of the players are in its jail.
Hopefully you guys followed that. It could be a pretty fun new mechanic for the game. Plus it could potentially make maf/town have to work together.
That is the end of my creativity for now. I might think up some animal stuff later, I dunno.
Night Meeting: Select a new personality, chooses another player to join him. The selected player appears to have died as a normal kill. However that player now has joined with the first schizoprenic.
Both controlling the same roll. If there are more than one personality, it has to be a majority vote. Votes are anonymous and there is no talking.
During the day, any of the personalities can choose to fire any guns, or pass bombs etc. They have a day action which controls the main vote.
The majority of their day action is their vote for the day, if their is no majority, a random vote for the day action will be selected as the day's vote. (Their day vote will be anonymous to themselves.)
They will be able (each one) to talk to other players as normal. They will also be able to whisper as normal but they will not see each other's whispers.
(Wins by having 3 personality voting the same during a day vote or final 2.)
Shrinks can heal the Schizophrenic, causing only the main personality to be left and the rest will be in the graveyard.
I had this ad type thing on my cs servers which was telling players useful information. Make like quick tip thing? it can be even in chat randomly pop up in pregame
8 Silhouette Created byKathryn6 months ago If attacked during the night or shot by gun during the day, they will be revealed as the Silhouette. Once attacked, they will be able to override one lynch. Once attacked, they will no longer be able to vote. Once attacked, they can no longer whisper or be whispered to. Once attacked, no actions can be taken towards them during the night or day. The game will not end in a tied scenario if the attacked Silhouette hasn't overridden a lynch. (The tied scenario does not include the Silhouette). If the Silhouette overrides a lynch on Mafia or a Third-Party role, they will come back to life as a Villager. Gaining all of their rights they had before they were attacked. If the Silhouette overrides a lynch on a Towns Member, they will go to the graveyard. They cannot override a no lynch. They act the same as a Villager until attacked. Appears as blue to self. (Until revealed) Sided with the village.

I created two 3rd party roles that take advantage of the graveyard change
Once per game , if killed, can replace an alive town member during the night by possesing them.
Town Sided
The role acts like town sided Disguiser.
The disguised player dies and replaces the Ghost in the graveyard, and the ghost replaces the alive person.
(Not sure if they should remain ghost, or steal the other person's role.)

Yeah I guess you could work it into mortician! My only concern is that usually mortician isn't used in revealed death setups (or at all) so if people aren't aware of the changes they still will avoid using it. But it'd be a great thing to add to it, even if renaming it.

Also, lucid, this is not my original idea, but I saw it on a forum where you originally promoted EM and thought it could still be a good addition.
Maybe instead of building a new role, this could be built into mortician? Or rename mortician and add this anyways. I'm not sure if mortician is even ever used in even ranked. Pretty good idea though tbh.

Elf - Visits one player each night - That player has any fabbed/sabbed items repaired - When Santa and Elf visit each other on the same night, the town receives a christmas carol. - Sided with the village
~I was thinking maybe it should only repair one item, but having multiple fabbed items at once seems like something that doesn't happen much.
Specter/Phantom - Visits one player each night - That player is unable to vote/use items the following day - Sided with the mafia - Does not attend mafia meetings
~It could probably have some sort of whisper mechanic as well because le spooky ghost man. This might serve better as a 3rd party role where the players lose their ability to vote for the rest of the game and the Phantom wins if he is in the final two. The 3rd party idea might make shrink more useful too
Bee (suggesting again because why not) - Assigned a queen bee at the beginning of the game. - Once per night, can block another player's night actions. - Once per game, can sting a player - killing both itself and the target. - Wins if the 'queen bee' is alive at the end of the game. - Sided with the 3rd party
Puppet Master / Puppeteer - Picks one player from the graveyard each night - Gains any abilities that user had for the following day - Can choose to out messages as the player the picked the previous night (works as crier/vent, but you can only vent the one player) - Wins if in the final two - Sided with the 3rd party
~This could be a fun role if we don't give it too much power. Maybe it can't control the same person twice in a row, or maybe it can only control a person once; if you pick person A n2, you can't pick them for the rest of the game, but you can pick any other players.
