Hello everyone! I would like to ask the people who are interested in this event to participate and contribute as much as possible.

In order for 2 new roles to be added to em, the community has to work together to refine the ideas that are going to be mentioned below. We have to collectively select 2 of the best ideas and make sure their version is the best one possible. The next step would be to come up with some sort of artwork for the selected roles. Lucid mentioned something about rewarding the users behind the artwork that would get selected in the end for those 2 roles.

Jack the Ripper (originally Hypocrite)

  • Jack the Ripper hates anyone who kills.
  • Jack the Ripper only wins when the game ends and all murderers are dead.
  • If Jack the Ripper receives a gun or knife and kills someone with it, he will not consider himself a murderer.
  • To Jack the Ripper, murderers are killing roles or any other player that has successfully eliminated someone else (shot, stabbed, blown up, etc.)
  • If a player survives one of these actions, Jack the Ripper will not consider the attacker a murderer. (~Jennings)

Cat Lady

  • Chooses one player every night. The player is instantly alerted that a cat is at their door. They have two options: Kill the cat, and let it go. If you kill the cat, you are roleblocked and the Cat Lady doesn't know who was visited. If you let it go, the Cat Lady learns your role.
  • Sided with the mafia. (~Her)

Robinhood

  • Visits two people, taking all items from the first and giving them to the second (cannot visit self either way)
  • Action fails if trying to steal from a mafia
  • Sided with the village (~Torreador)

Vice President

  • If the president dies, takes their place
  • All townies immediately receive a message of their new president
  • Attends mafia meetings, and makes them anonymous
  • Cannot win if they are the vice president (~Alyssa)

Gossiper

  • Chooses one person every night.
  • Will see some whispers this person receives/makes.
  • Gossiper's action does not count as a visit.
  • Sided with the mafia. (~Soluciones)

(revising) the Seer

  • Knows all mafia from the beginning of the game.
  • If lynched at the end of the game, the last mafia can guess who the Seer is for autowin.
  • If the Seer dies, they will appear as a random (non-mafia) role in the setup and their will will always be blank. If dead, the mafia can still attempt a guess to the Seer's identity at the end of the game.
  • If there are multiple Seers in a game, only one Seer will know the mafia at any given time.
  • If there are two mafias and multiple Seers, the knowledge of the mafias will be split between them.
  • Sided with the village. (~Shwartz99)

Whistleblower

  • Once per game can force someone to vote someone else. Vote cannot be OT'D if it is a hammer. Sided with maf (Will create more tension in selfing/hammering based setups (~Moldyches)

Soldier

  • If they are the last man standing against a single mafia or third party, the village wins.
  • Sided with the village. (~XFire)

PowerTown

  • Each night chooses a power role from the options provided to him. (the mods should determine the list)
  • Night meeting goes accordingly
  • Sided with the village

PowerMafia

  • Each night chooses a mafia role from the list.
  • Night meeting goes accordingly
  • Sided with the mafia

The addition of guns and all of the armed and dangerous clones were the last real comp change we've had. The gun mechanic was cool because it allowed for D1 mylo + ml setups, and gave clears autonomy on a level never seen before on this site. The byproduct of said autonomy is our current meta of pointfarming for the clear even in Gold Heart games.

I think in 10 years of this site, it's pretty well established that our comp setups are going to follow the trend of being some big or small variant of a D1 ml setup, with the D1 mylo setups thrown in as a counter unless a role/mechanic is added that's game changing enough to interest people.


When I read this, I think it would make more sense to have a mechanic that changes voting and/or death than a role for solving this problem. We could have something like the Nomination setting suggested a couple pages ago, because it would limit the possibilities for ml/mylo.

That being said, I'm not convinced that a role as revolutionary as the gunsmith hasn't been added in the 10 years EM has been around. The issue is getting people to use the roles to their fullest potential instead of just making every setup a slightly bigger version of Bakerfarm. And when new roles don't fit or outright break an existing meta, it becomes that much harder for people to start using.

I don't know, what do you think could be done?

Duelist

Can challenge someone anonymously to a gun duel.

If he challenges town anonymously and won. He will be a wanted man. (not sided with anyone just needs to be lynched. If he escaped the lynch will become a maf after 2 days maybe)

If he challenges maf anonymously and won. He will receive a bounty(another gun or other abilities) and become a town.

If he loses the duel just dies instantly.

You can revise this if you want.


Lucid was going to add a role like this a long time ago. I'm not really sure why your role converts to town or mafia, they should just win the game. Otherwise, why make them third party?

Pls write this down bc it is the simplest thing that would really help the game, even if it's small. Every death, even vegs, should say the person's role. This currently is not a thing, with lynches and vegs. I don't see why not, though.

the meta is dependent on the setups being played
if you main guys keep playing the same comp setups (and the winners of the round decide the next round's setups iirc), you're going to be stuck in this rut.
you need to work together by making new setups (ideally using the new roles), playing them, upvoting them, and getting them comp/ranked.


The setups aren't the problem, it's the fact that this community abuses setups for points over actually playing the game as intended. We already have setups that would break the current meta, but no one is going to play them when you can get quick and easy games of guns and hookers or whatever the pointfarm of the day is.

Heres a few random cult-team ideas:

"Secret Keeper"
Sided with the cult.
Goes to cult meetings.
Picks a target at night. If the cult leader is destroyed and the cult is wiped out, they pass their Eldritch knowledge to the target before dying, creating a new cult leader of them.


"Pactmaker" Sided with the cult.
Goes to cult meetings.
Once per game picks a target to enter an Eldritch Pact.
Pact target becomes a survivor.
If Pactmaker dies, so does the survivor.


"Summoner" Sided with the cult
Goes to Cult meetings.
Picks a target at night. Once per game, if the target dies, they are saved, and converted to cthulhu.

Lucid, maybe make Butler only appear to be blue if lynched, but if someone shoots him like Sheriff or something, he flips Butler. Just like miller flips his true role if killed.

My idea would be to divide them like this:

Cultist:
-Meets with other cultists at night.
-Sided with the cult.

Cult Leader:
-When present in the game, the cult will have a conversion meeting.
-If killed, all cultists die with them.
-Sided with the cult.

So in essence we're turning the cultists into a templar type of role and they don't convert automatically, but the Cult Leader enables a conversion meeting.


Wouldn't this break a lot of the current cultist based setups? Not that they're played competitively anymore, but all the previous ones would no longer work as intended.


i suspect it would work like one random cultist is selected as the cult leader (kinda how it works now)
