Sexism and Racism.

almost 8 years

Sexism and racism is inherently linked to power, in such a way that women can't (really) be sexist towards men, and black people can't (really) be racist towards white people.

Yes there are exceptions, I don't want someone to bring up some 3,000 year old civilization that was dominated by black people where they had more privilege.

Racism and sexism are inherently a privilege issue, you can bring up all the cases you want of hate crimes against men from extremists or hate crimes against white people from black people - but it's not racism.

It's discrimination.

If you want to make a case against this then you can prove that women have more privilege than men, or that black people have more privilege than white people.

Maybe it's sad to say that this is primarily the american scope that I'm speaking of, I'm an american so I'm more in tune with american politics and the racial scope in this area.

all of the posts i saw the day after the election saying "if you voted for trump, make sure to tell all of the women/lgbt/black people/mexicans in your life you don't care about them" made me want to neuter myself

i'm not even gonna try to debate about whether that's right, but you should consider it from their perspective. a lot of minorities that i knew were sincerely afraid after the trump presidency, and whether or not their perception of trump is true or false, it's a perception that a lot of people have.

I think it is.

Saying that you can't be racist against white people is a syllogistic fallacy in itself.

Not to discount from the real racial issues or institutional racism in the United States.

Just gonna quote this. This is why you're wrong Shamu, purely semantics.

Another really easy generalization that could be made is that most white people over the age of 50~ exhibit slight racist tendencies at the least. A conversation with your average baby boomer will show that they think most brown people are illegal immigrants and lesser citizens and black people are violent and uneducated.

Note that those persons also voted for Trump in record breaking turn out

anyone who didn't vote for sanders is either bigoted, ignorant, not politically educated, too old to be voting, or stupid.

ironically the trump voters are the ones who aren't concerned about race or privilege but just want to be able to sustain themselves

this was during the primaries but it's still important: https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-mythology-of-trumps-working-class-support/

of course there were economic fears among trump supporters, and i get it because the economy is scary, but i don't think labeling the majority of trump voters people who were just scared about the economy is exactly right

Women voted along party lines. trump did better with minorities than romney did.

i agree with the immigration part, but i think trump/hillary voters were equally concerned with the economy as far as i can tell, as nearly everyone in our country is concerned about the economy in some way right now

it's still a little early to make any judgments about trump's cabinet but at face value it does seem like kind of a disaster, but i still think the working class would prefer it to what they've been getting

But they voted Trump who appointed a bunch of people unto his Senate that are going to make it harder for the average person to sustain themselves

Are you telling me the people that voted Trump into office may have been deceived into not voting in their own self-interests?

Say it ain't so.

Also if you are a Woman and you say quote on quote "All men are evil in the world all they want is sex or money!" You are sexist. It works either way.

i don't know anything about systemic sexism or racism, but i also don't think it's a coincidence that every person who i've had a conversation about it with in real life has been an absolute nightmare to talk to and has never been to an area struck with actual poverty

i don't think some of these white coal miners who are heroin and meth addicts and can't get clean drinking water come from any place of privilege just because of their skin color

and this is a pretty big reason why trump won. people can call them racist if they want, but it's not fair to say theyre privileged
