This is a dedicated thread for users to bounce around and brainstorm on ideas for new roles, items, game mechanics or anything else to improve and build upon our beloved Mafia game.
Back in 2015 Sims made a thread asking if anyone had any ideas for roles since Lucid was looking to make some new ones (found here: https://epicmafia.com/topic/71173?page=1) That thread's dead now, but it's always good to try to bring the community together and come up with new stuff for the game.
Some of you might know my reputation for designing new roles and my passion for Mafia. EpicMafia is a pretty cool website and can always use some new stuff to spice up and remix the usual game formula, and I know a few of you have ideas of your own.
NOTE: If you're here to complain about Sandbox moderation or the site mods, please don't.
Here's a role made by Error (with consultation from moi) in the chat box just now:
Virologist:
-Every night, the Virologist visits one player to infect them with a pathogen. -The pathogen spreads when infected players visit non-infected players or non-infected players visit infected players. -The pathogen is undetectable and doesn't do anything to the infected. -Roles that do not visit will not become infected from doing actions on infected players. -Doctors, nurses, surgeons, monks, and quacks cure players of infection. -If visited by a shrink, the virologist converts to doctor. If visited by a quack, the virologist converts to poisoner. -Wins if all living players are infected. -Cannot win if killed/lynched.
(2. Sideman: Sided with third. Sideman appears to self as lover and to cop as village. When someone attempts to reveal the sideman, their actions will be canceled and the sideman will become invulnerable to kills until the end of the next day. Has a one time meeting that appears as lover meeting where the sideman visits one person. That person cannot be investigated/role learnt during that night. If there is an angel, lover, admirer, or cupid the sideman will fall in love with angel/lover/admirer/cupid. If the angel/lover/admirer/cupid would be killed, the sideman protects them and kills the killer (25% chance to kill).
(3. Perjurer: Sided with Mafia. Appears are town. At night, the double agent visits one person. Any reports that person would receive will instead be random. Works on dreamer, caroler, penguin, cop, detective, watcher, tracker, and mafia equivalents. Does not work on Priest, Gramps, or Mistletoe.
(4. Double Agent: Sided with town. Appears as mafia to investigators. When a Double Agent is present, it will appear to the mafia that there is a mastermind. The double agent attends mafia meetings, but will be unable to hear, only speak. If visited by an investigative role, the Double Agent will be revealed to the mafia.
(1. Miscreant: Sided with village. Appears to self as anarchist. Appears as Fool on death. Appears to cop and Santa as mafia. Cannot receive items. At night, in the Miscreant Meeting (appears as Anarchist Meeting), the miscreant chooses one person to visit. That night, that person's actions are reverse. Watcher gets watched by target Killing roles protect instead of killing. Mafia killing roles give vests to targets Converting roles get converted to the role of the target. Roles that give items receive items instead. Does not affect investigative roles, non-visiting roles, Cthulhu, or Werewolf. If the miscreant visits a granny, he is protected from death and is converted into a Villager.

Bride - Once a game during the day, can choose to propose to a player - The player must decide whether they will or will not marry the Bride - If they accept, both the bride and the groom will be revealed - Otherwise the town will know they declined - Sided with the village

What I imagined with it is during the day, it picks, just like a gun/invis/etc meeting. And the person decides during the DAY whether they will or will not marry the bride. So it's like, the person the bride proposes to has to choose right there and then if they wanna get revealed and they're put on the spot
There's like 50 million roles suggested but I'll suggest like two
that's twice as many as the other 50 million people suggested

the way you intend for this role to work is outing mafia, who will always say no
then the strategy is to lynch whoever the bride put in their will, but what if it's an important town pr who doesn't want to be outed? then you lynch the doctor because the key protective role didn't want to be outed?
looks interesting on the surface, doesn't play out in practice
Honestly, I think that would be a good cover for mafia, saying that like "Oh, I just killed the bride because I'm a big PR or something like Bomb and I didn't want my cover to go." You bring up a good point though because it would suck to be a PR and just have it out in the open.
Realistically it would probably get the best use from solving a CC assuming no suits and etc, just because right in that moment you can clear someone right there. It's beneficial in just getting an autoclear out in the open, but you just gotta know when to propose bc obviously hipposing is silly. It's like real life kids. Don't marry just anyone
