The mod team has recently been discussing how to moderate hipfiring. The current precedent is to consider it a trolling violation in red heart games and a game throwing (GT) violation in competitive games.
We're deciding between the current precedent and two other options.
Trolling throughout. The idea behind this is that game rules are game rules and that moderation should be standardized between red and gold heart games.
Game throwing throughout. This plays to the idea that the action of hipfiring is generally done without "playing to win" and as such falls under game throwing.
Please vote in the poll and if you feel that you have a point that you would like to make, post in this thread. If you have another option that you think is viable, please also let us know!
I said it in the mod forums, but imo make it by moderator discretion. If this discussion is happening, then we should allow the mod to give what they see fit for the situation/game. Don't see why the colour of the heart matters
same reason comp games get refunded for GT but red hearts don't, right?
people like to think that running for a trophy is more skill-reliant than the rest of the site or something

i mean who cares about red heart games anyway? join gold heart if you want to play with people who don't isp
jokes aside, there are a lot more setups in red heart some of which are hipfire setups and, pointfarmy as they are, idk about advocating GT in every case ever
edit: but tbh i don't care either way. trolling vios are still vios. comp matters because people think it matters so i join comp if i expect anything to matter. it's different for new players but they aren't going to be doing much reporting for the most part, are they?
Keep it the same because people hip firing in red hearts don't care, which is trolling. People hip firing in gold hearts are bad people and deserve GT vios
the last comp game I played, we were all talking in pregame about how it was a really great table, and then this sicko denial joined to accuse me of being junkrat again. I had a CP claiming I was clear for not n1ing denial ready for d1 and guess what? Denial, the miller, was cold as the rock I thought was in his brain. So I wept a little since I was kind of looking forward to playing with him and being blatant town, and cried out that he was my friend and then this one nobody called MentosGum outed as cop with guilty on me.
This was BV, so you were supposed to out as cop. That was well and good. In BV, you don't out your report. I kicked and screamed like the towny baby I was as these players I respected all sheeped the cop in lynching the report in a 2-miller, 1-gf setup because of some superficial evidence against me. And like, that would be a pretty stupid wifom even if I were one of those players that used N1 deaths to fake clear myself, but whatever.
Night came and I noticed 2 of the good players were mafia. Another was doc, and he fun-saved a blue. The 2 mafiosi were torn between killing the blue that would've gotten saved and the actual doc.
Kicks came and they killed the actual doc. The cop had checked the godfather and lynched their check for the second time that game without even outing it, so town was left in 3-way no clears and lost.
The story has an Aesopp. I learned my lesson all over gain; denial is not stupid at all, compared to the rest of the trash on this planet.
oh ya.. we lost you're confirmed junkrat now
also threads gay. either keep it the same or change it to GT for both (reasoning being is even if people are newbs that dont know better, you can note them in red hearts or something and give the people circlejerking a vio)
im an advocate of pooping on parties

there's no real reason why red and gold heart should be treated any different outside of the fact that people who are new are going to be playing red heart games more often than gold, and that's why trolling was given to hipfiring instead of just straight of GTing. giving someone 1/3 a way to a ban for a mechanic they likely don't understand is why trolling is seen as the more lenient option
at the same time, you have no real reason to not give a GT vio when someone who has played 10k worth of games hipfires in a red heart game outside of the nonexistent Red Heart Games Clause
You're seeing the pure action of hipfiring as intent to gamethrow.
What if the person hip fired but proceeded to show intent to win and won the game?
hipfiring is mechanically not advantageous because the numbers are not in fown's favor. if someone hip fires, they're either a. shooting randomly for a dice roll that, on average, will not work out or b. specifically shooting a person that they dislike and/or want out of the game. both are GT as far as i care
