The mod team has recently been discussing how to moderate hipfiring. The current precedent is to consider it a trolling violation in red heart games and a game throwing (GT) violation in competitive games.
We're deciding between the current precedent and two other options.
Trolling throughout. The idea behind this is that game rules are game rules and that moderation should be standardized between red and gold heart games.
Game throwing throughout. This plays to the idea that the action of hipfiring is generally done without "playing to win" and as such falls under game throwing.
Please vote in the poll and if you feel that you have a point that you would like to make, post in this thread. If you have another option that you think is viable, please also let us know!
i think it should all be trolling. if someone hipfires to up another player then it's gamethrowing, because that falls under gamethrowing as it already is.
lets pretend the exact same game happens twice, once in red heart once in gold heart
someone hipfires, they are reported for it
the red heart game gets trolling
the gold heart game gets gt???
if the exact same game happens in a red heart and a gold heart, why would the outcome of reports for both games be different; what happened happened
the exact same game won't happen because people suck in different ways in both types of games, and gold heart setups don't fill very easily in red hearts, but nonetheless I think the precedent for it is that people in gold heart games are going to gold heart to do something they could do in red heart, which is more indicative of malicious intent/disregard for the rules. Like, people take it really seriously when they think there's a chance someone's throwing games in comp and distorting the potential owners of little pixel cups, so it makes some sense for playing without a lot of concern for one's wincon to be punished more severely there. i' mnot going to bother to rewrite that coherently

the only people who want red heart to remain trolling are the people in #TheMob who play red heart a&v and circlejerk/borderline throw because they know people don't care about red hearts for whatever reason
I said it in the mod forums, but imo make it by moderator discretion. If this discussion is happening, then we should allow the mod to give what they see fit for the situation/game. Don't see why the colour of the heart matters
same reason comp games get refunded for GT but red hearts don't, right?
if it were up to me, refunds would be refunds regardless of heart colour as well
ok, you've won me over with the campaign promises you'd go out of your way not to fulfill if you were running for mod. i'll go vote the game throwing option with all my alts
