The question posed in this thread is not necessarily one of the moderation team, the site owner lucidrains/Phillip Wang, or other moderators/admins on the moderation team of this website.
People are calling for Ethereal's head because they were recently promoted from role moderator to moderator. The people calling for Ethereal to be demodded are generally viewing and accusing Ethereal as a predator.
My question is, if you guys care so much about Ethereal being a potential predator, should you not be arguing that Ethereal should be site banned? (Personally, I don't think Ethereal should be site banned. She has done her time for being banned and is currently a very big help for the moderators and cheating investigation team, in my opinion.) Your argument seems to not want to rid the website of possible predators, but to just make sure they don't become moderators. It doesn't really make much sense to me.
And even if Ethereal is demodded, guess what? She's still going to help with Cheating cases and finding banned users... nothing is going to change (except that she won't be able to do reports). Is that really going to be a sigh of relief for all of you?
So if Ethereal is demodded, what difference is it to you people if she's still allowed to be on the website...?
EDIT:
I am in favour of demodding Ethereal to please the community fwiw (I was before I even made this thread), but if we do that I don't really get why they are even allowed to be on the site anyways. I'm seeing these arguments I just don't agree with them; potential is potential at the end of the day, and I believe Ethereal should be allowed to stay on the site
The context surrounding that conversation made me take it as a joke. You were dragging her because she wanted to play mafia with us and I didn't think you were being completely sincere with me.
When I offered Sammie a position on the team I was not privy to all of the details about her history. Would knowing them have affected my decision? Probably. But I believe that after some reconsideration I would have come to the same conclusion: that she has reformed and is not a threat to anyone on this site.
I'm willing to reconsider her appointment to site moderator, however, if the entire community (read: more than just the vocal ~20 people that have been witch-hunting her) is against the decision that I made. I'm here to serve the community after all.
You're already making a mistake in labelling it as a witch hunt. Most of the complaints are of revisionism; labelling actions in the past as trolling. That is far from the case and I feel her gender is playing far too much of an influence into the side of the argument.
Most us want to know why these 5 years are 'trolling', especially when it involves off site harassment, mod account exploitation and more. Having someone call it as fake is insulting.
I believe that the motivations that she had then and the motivations that she has now are dramatically different and that there is no chance that, put in the same situations, she would do it again. Perhaps I am too willing to give people chances, but when someone shows me that no facet of her behavior points to a proclivity for harassing, provoking, or antagonizing other EM users, the logical conclusion for me is that she is not a threat.
I understand that I cannot possibly have the same perspective as the people who have had to deal with what she has done in the past. I know that she broke some bridges that will take a long time to repair, and some that she can probably never repair. But I don't think that she should be denied a chance at attempting to do so.
Also the fact y'all are too busy covering for her rather than letting her speak and making her own decision is really telling. The community deserves both an apology and explanation, but God if I live long enough to see that.
Black people are still waiting for their apology, good luck Stevie Wonder
Also, yes, I told you beforehand that Ethereal was a pedophile, and you acknowledged that last night, saying that it was something you wish you had taken seriously instead of brushing it off.
So wait, Cody downright lied about not knowing she was a pedophile, or... bc lmaaaaaaaaaao.
I forgot that time when he went all reformed and spent it catching cheaters and then it turned out the cheaters were just him and he was catching humself
I think it'd be a different conversation if she admitted to saying those things and owned up to how she acted in the past but the most telling part of this is probably her outright denying it and trying to play it off like everyone was lying despite there being logs showing otherwise

To be honest the more i remember petri, the worse he would be as an candidate

Nah, most of this is pretty much just peeps out for blood.
No, it's not. I think it's one of the worst lows to have a moderation team label the past as fake, when I as an admin had to deal with Petri posting x-rated yuri images on a moderation account.
Or abusive off-site comments
Not to mention the endless amount of cheating.
Any apologies for it? Na.
Guess it must all be fake then.
this is actually insane though lmao

if the entire community (read: more than just the vocal ~20 people)
I'm really curious as to what you define as "entire community" if virtually every active forum poster has weighed in negatively on it. Do they need to go grab random Sandbox users who don't know the site has rules let alone know who Ethereal is?
The number of people voicing opposition is substantial, especially considering the number of people active on the forums. Knowing the people on the site is a prerequisite to being able to accurately vet them.
