Question RE: Ethereal

The question posed in this thread is not necessarily one of the moderation team, the site owner lucidrains/Phillip Wang, or other moderators/admins on the moderation team of this website.

People are calling for Ethereal's head because they were recently promoted from role moderator to moderator. The people calling for Ethereal to be demodded are generally viewing and accusing Ethereal as a predator.

My question is, if you guys care so much about Ethereal being a potential predator, should you not be arguing that Ethereal should be site banned? (Personally, I don't think Ethereal should be site banned. She has done her time for being banned and is currently a very big help for the moderators and cheating investigation team, in my opinion.) Your argument seems to not want to rid the website of possible predators, but to just make sure they don't become moderators. It doesn't really make much sense to me.

And even if Ethereal is demodded, guess what? She's still going to help with Cheating cases and finding banned users... nothing is going to change (except that she won't be able to do reports). Is that really going to be a sigh of relief for all of you?

So if Ethereal is demodded, what difference is it to you people if she's still allowed to be on the website...?

EDIT:

I am in favour of demodding Ethereal to please the community fwiw (I was before I even made this thread), but if we do that I don't really get why they are even allowed to be on the site anyways. I'm seeing these arguments I just don't agree with them; potential is potential at the end of the day, and I believe Ethereal should be allowed to stay on the site

that's where you're wrong. petri doesn't know any coding/hijacking like arcbell does so petri being a mod does allow him to have access to more info like (email domain). also arcbell doesn't have evidence of paedophilia against him.

i don't get what your point is, any human being is freely capable of doing whatever they want but when you actually endorse someone who's doing things like that and put people in a position where they have to seek this person out, you're putting those people in danger and that's entire point of having her demodded.

Arcbell is smart enough to abuse site exploits though Giga. That's why he doesn't need to be handed mod to do anything.

Sammie was a troll, she has reformed now. I don't care what you say beyond this, it is what I believe and you would have to provide *current* evidence to support your claim she is not reformed. Demodding her for this is pointless.

The people protecting petri here are either his friends (dave, kerry, etc.) or another mod (mods usually protect each other)
or a post-2011 player (probably a petri alt themself)

Here's 2 good reasons why Petri should be demodded but can be a regular user on the site:

1) He's just going to act like he's reformed and then one day he'll figure out all the hidden mod links and destroy the site.
There's precedent on this when he was indexcards' account, he was modding like a normal mod did and then one day he spammed the site with p*rn and deleted a bunch of threads.
Just one example of what petri as a mod can do - he can reset the round on the last day or DQ a user on the last day to screw users out of trophies.

2) The whole "paedophilia" - Mods can see more than just a normal user. They can see email domains for instance.
Some of the young users on this site have used their school email domain to register an account. This means petri now has access to this and can locate certain young users.

My guess is petri won't do anything drastic for now and will play it calm until a few months later or until he gets promoted to admin, then he'll start to destroy the site.
