Okay so, I officially committed to a college today. I'll be going there in the fall. A majority of my knowledge about college comes from stuff that I've seen in TV shows, movies and have heard from random people. For those of you who are actually enrolled in a university right now, how is it like and what should I expect?
if you had told me 2 years ago that peter would become the requisite "look at how much more NORMAL and COOL i am than everyone else!" poster i would've laughed in your face
Wow, the opinions in this thread are truly outlandish and they're a really profound reminder of how weird and messed up EM users are relative to the average well-adjusted person.
Major in what interests you. People who fail at things think you will also fail so they tell you not to go to school x or do major y but if you're passionate enough about something then you'll probably be able to make a career out of it. Unless it's fine arts. Don't major in art or dance or film or any of that crap.
The fact that my former major (Psychology) was so oversubscribed along with the fact that getting myself a job was impossible without going down the graduate / PhD route was one of the main reasons why I dropped out.
If majoring in something that you're extremely passionate about is worth the student debt in the end with no job to help pay it off - go for it.
Know exactly what you're getting yourself into to avoid making the same mistake that I did.

Eh, I think he can go through with what he wants. There are tons of job opportunities in the writing industry; it doesn't have to be strictly book-writing.
We'll see. But saying he'll end up in McDonald's is a bit harsh.
1. Switch your major... unless you're planning to go to College for three - four years just for the experience, graduate with a degree that has almost zero job opportunities, and realize that you wasted the last four years of your life whenever you find yourself in the kitchen or behind the counter of your local McDonalds.
1.) making friends is easier than high school. but keeping them can be difficult. 2.) if you live on campus or if you have a roommate, make sure you communicate about what you think is acceptable/ plans for cleaning and things like that. 3.) don't skip classes! actually this depends on the class. if the prof counts attendance, then its obvious to attend. if the class is going toward your major, then you probably should attend too. 4.) get to know your instructors, especially the professors in your major. theyll be the ones recommending you for jobs and such 5.) organize and schedule everything!! i remember in high school i never used a planner and i did well. but college is a lot different and now i RELY on a calendar and planner. i couldnt survive without one 6.) have fun!!!
