Okay so, I officially committed to a college today. I'll be going there in the fall. A majority of my knowledge about college comes from stuff that I've seen in TV shows, movies and have heard from random people. For those of you who are actually enrolled in a university right now, how is it like and what should I expect?
Honestly if I could go back in time I'd have made it high priority not to share a room with someone. Then again I was pretty awkward back then.

It's made out worse than it'll likely be, there's a chance you'll be stuck with a real d-wad but more often than not you'll share with someone cool. I wasn't the most social guy around prior to college and it didn't take that long to realize it's a good thing having to split a room with someone else. I wouldn't really expect anything else than you would when you're normally meeting people in any other setting; get to know the guy and decide if you like him or not.
Entirely depends on the type of person you are. If you're the quiet type who normally keeps to himself, this is going to be hell for you. If you're outgoing and like parties and constant socialization, its fun. Also depends on your room mate. Completely.
Bump because I need answers from those who have actually been/are in college:
What is living with a roommate in a tiny dorm room like? In addition to that, how weird is dorm life? I have no idea what to expect and I'm pretty nervous about living with another person. How were your experiences?

If you enjoy music, you should definitely pursue it, even if that means only taking a few classes and see how you fare in them, or just joining the school orchestra or something like that. You probably aren't an amazing musician, so if you do decide to major in it, you'd probably be looking at teaching jobs. As for being a political science major, you can always audit classes, and see if you can keep up with courses. I'd advise you to try to make friends and have fun too, but you're probably going to a college where you'll find people who are somewhat like you, so I think you'll find friends anyway. Good luck! Feel free to message me if you have any more questions because I might not check the forums often(maybe I will who knows).
I wouldn't. It's a totally fine major. I just impulsively quoted ling because I tried to force myself into psych and wound up hating it, never studying, nodding off in the middle of class, and getting bad grades.
A lot of people think it's really easy at lower levels but be warned - if it's a very popular major at your school, which it probably is, you might get a prof who really busts your balls in Psych 101 because they're trying to weed out the people who aren't really serious about it.
That's fair enough. I find psych infinitely interesting but my future really can't hinge on my ability to pursue a PHD or a Masters degree. I'm still not sure if an undergraduate degree would help either.
I am insanely passionate about music, writing and human behavior. I lack the musical talent to make a good music major, but since I think I'm alright with writing it's something that I'm definitely considering. I have also seriously considered a political science major, but I'm not sure if that would be good for me.
I'm not really sure what you plan to do after college, but I recommend you to at least have a plan, so you can start building your resume sooner. I'm not sure if I'd recommend an English degree because I think you can only really teach with it, or go into higher education. But if you're good at writing, it would be helpful to do things such as writing for your school's newspaper because it will suggest to potential employers that you can write well.
psych sucks because once you're out of college its hard to actually start off as a psychologist and you need to do other stuff for a while because no one wants to talk to a 21 year old with no life experiences about thier own life experiences

i remember me and my friends being the ones to initiate bringing our wii to the lounge and playing smash bros. it would just be the five of us rotating with the loser giving up the controller and then an hour later we'd have about 15 people crowding around and eventually we got a tournament going on with multiple tvs and people from different floors and dorms coming to play. good times, good times.
sounds freaking awesome
once you get to college, the easiest way to make friends is bring your console to the lounge and fire up a fun multiplayer game. preferably smash

Just to be clear, it's still likelier that Psych 101 will be a walk in the park.
