He cheated, you should probably ban him too.

um, i thought the whole "alpha/beta" thing was a joke back then ._.
rwf made it legit like the scum she is

No she didn't. She was never alpha so how could she make it legit.

It was all a troll from the alpha mods, but as time went on it just started solidifying to the point we had alpha chats and whatnot (mostly to mess with the betas, but also I guess it was a way to show superiority).

That was when I was a mod at least

as someone who was here through every mod era, i think the site was the most stable during the calm periods of laexio, PE, and nikos

Riotkiller14 was a good player and he modded good players. And you know what? It worked.

You know it's weird but I was totally satisfied with the Mangofruits/Rondar/Projectmatt era. Never did I once feel compelled to make a thread like this. Maybe, just maybe, it is actually the staffs fault and not the userbase?
In all fairness, there were countless people who -did- feel compelled to make a thread like this during that time. Granted, I think this thread is actually valid.

the overarching issue is that every person that's ever been universally respected as a moderator either a) didn't have time for the drama or b) clashed with phil

and the idea of phil treating this website as anything but a monthly adsense paycheck at this point is kind of depressing and i kinda don't blame anyone that thinks b)

it's the fact there isn't a presence that the previous mods had where things felt in order and being done correctly as nobody on the mod team has built up a community respect due to the fact all of them are mostly just report machines as i've said a million times over
newpage

also helps the fact the admins of that time were also respected and their decisions on who they modded were

if i wanted to be a mod again, i would apply and get remodded. especially considering the mod team is down 5 mods.

I don't think so, because I have no clue who triaft is

i dont think moderating is broken at the core, i just think the rapid shift in admins (im pretty certain it went from riot -> ark -> arcbell -> bronto -> vancy -> jasprar just this year) has led to a lack of cohesion in the moderation team and its not going to be fixed without a whole new team chosen by a new admin.
I felt my team was pretty cohesive.

There's a lot of turnover, more so than anything else, unless that's what you meant by this. The fact that mods are in and out so frequently, and admins too, are a problem. A lot of policies change and then flip back depending on who is in charge.

Another reason turnover is high is because of the environment and the huge time commitment involved.

i completely agree, in the thankfully impossible scenario in which i woke up tomorrow and was admin i would immediately demod everyone and go through a brand new application process

the ideas of mod precedent and mod continuity are dumb, especially when you consider reports aren't actually handled with precedent. if you appeal a no violation with a link to a report that had an identical scenario result in a violation, the mods will laugh at you rather than realizing that a precedent was set in the past. which kind of makes sense, because instead of supreme court justices, they're 16 year olds on the internet and can't possibly comprehend what precedent means

if the community gave anon mods a chance, it'd be lovely.

and by community i mean a group of like 20-30 people who'd try not to rip them to shreds.

you'd need some way for the community to criticize the mods openly enough, maybe even impeach them? it's ideal, but probably to complicated for EM. comparing it to the situation with past secret mods doesnt work.
Renaldoover 11 years ago
well you're not always going to have an all-star team. Even doing 100+ a week felt like a lot. I didn't really have much of a social life outside of EM when I was a mod/admin.

There's just no other system in the entire world where cheaters become referees in the future, is all I am saying. Like this is the only place where anyone thinks that that is okay
