The Current State Of Sandbox

over 7 years

‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍

Alright, over the course of two weeks much has happened, and I'm wondering why we're still in this situation where we have to carousel power from one to another and since this is ending up as a stand still I'll be the first one to make a move and say it here and now since this is like a circus of bonobo's.

What is being done right now?

We still have no word as to who will be the next owner of Sandbox, and it seems like it's being delayed as much as possible for someone to keep their power as it's been baton passed to them. It's concerning that Merlot passed the powers to someone who has had their power evicted from in the past, and shouldn't have had them passed down when there are clearly better contestants that are faithful to this Lobby. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ [The Mod Team]

How long will it take, it shouldn't be this long..

I can see where you want to find the best contestants to bestow the power of this Lobby upon, but this is getting less and less believable that you truly want to give a respectable person power, delaying this process is getting more and more suspicious as it seems someone wants to stay in power with their little group. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍
We want a date now as of who will be chosen and don't say you dare say, "I'm still deciding."

EDIT/TLDR: What was going on?

Regardless, this argument has gone on long enough. At this point in time, it's become quite clear that no one has any intention of changing their minds. So we may as well end it here. I'm going back to studying for finals.

here's something to think about if you're interested in psych

people NEVER change their minds during an argument, but ideas from the argument manifest and influence their beliefs once they're no longer committed to defending their side. this is because, at the time of debate, you find yourself in a situation where you have to defend your beliefs just as you would defend your existence and to concede is to cease. outside of this context, however, you can digest aforementioned ideas more easily and even if you don't accept them you might still mold your beliefs around them

I hope you're not actually referring to me, because I didn't learn bigotry/persecution in my civics class. I learned it when people spit on me because of my faith. Or when someone didn't like the religion of my friend, so he grabbed her shirt and began to drive letting her be dragged across the pavement.

i dont even know you're faith

you could say i'm as impartial as it gets when it comes to whatever you believe

but both of those instances are physical, not verbal

It's becoming rapidly apparent that a lot of people in this topic don't understand what real bigotry and persecution mean or entail. I'm very grateful you learned something in your 7th grade civics class, and want to change the world for the better and that's fantastic. Don't, however, assume that having these words in your cultural lexicon, which have a lot of innate emotional baggage associated with them, means you get to throw said words around to get your way. I'm sorry, but pointing out that bigotry and injustice should be stopped in the world isn't a segway into: so we should therefore censor a video game lobby. That isn't a compelling logical argument, and you're belittling the actual real world injustices that occur on a daily basis.

to be honest i don't like to make this argument because it's the whole fallacy of "who has it worse," which dismisses any problem deemed "unworthy" even if it is still a problem

the argument i prefer to make is the distinction between attitudes and actions, because attitudes are a matter of perception and can be influenced while actions are more or less emotionally blunted and tend to carry regret which reinforces the beliefs that inspire them

enforcing policies around racism is absolutely beneficial to fighting it as a social issue because it takes away the power from the person being a bigot trying to make someone feel ostracized for their existence and turns them into the outcast. This is why websites like "stormfront" exist, so people who haven't caught up with society can congregate and be angry at the world while we all mock them and laugh for being behind.

you're absolutely right, this is why websites like stormfront exist: because the sentiment never goes away if all you do is run away and never confront it. you know what converts a white supremacist into a rational person? being near black people and realizing they're people too. that's why the end of segregation absolutely decimated racism in the us: it didn't dwindle before mixing, it faded away as a consequence of it

outcasts never die, if they did then gays would no longer exist because they were among the greatest outcasts of recent history. the difference between a homo and a phobe is that one doesn't change, the other does. you facilitate that change not by pushing people away but by accepting them and showing them gradually that their beliefs hold no water

but I haven't said a bad thing about islam in this thread

i thought this was a fun civil discussion but are you really unabashedly attacking peoples characters now

No, I'm referring to when he was actually being Islamophobic in chatbox while I was around.

i'll assume for the benefit of your argument this isn't taken out of context: why are you talking about it here?

no, before you say it is, it is not relevant. it adds nothing to the conversation, it only serves to slander and dismiss.
