If you don't realize that your parents income influences your education and ability to get scholarships then you've never seen a dirt poor school system.
I haven't, that's the first good point you've made.
But I wouldn't say my high school education was anything special.
We're not talking about public schools. We're talking about financial aid to for college and univerisites. If your parents make too much money, you don't get financial assistance. If your parents fall below the poverty line, you get money thrown at you. This isn't a hard concept to follow.
Is someone upset because their parents don't make six figures?
I don't approve of this joke, and I really am not trying to be that guy. That is not at all my point. My point is that kids are in the same boat at 18 years old.
You would be correct. I was referring to July, not you.
I know, but I'm not trying to be that guy here who is like: "Eff people with poor parents." I feel them, that sucks when your parents can't pay, paying for college is hard, but my parents aren't paying for it either, so why does the government pay their bill and not mine

Not upset. Just don't understand why someone thinks having poor parents is a benefit when they could afford to pay their own tuition without going into debt.
I paid off my full tuition after scholarships. But I wouldn't say that being a poor thing is a good thing under any circumstance.

Right, except I'm not going to go into debt, I'm going to pay it now and not pay the interest because I'm not an idiot like you clearly are.

Sally Mae. You go into debt, you pay it off. The interest rates are always cringe worthy. But when you don't have money you get taken advantage of - welcome to the USA.
I got a state stipend offered to every student in Colorado (Sweet, thank you Colorado) ,a few scholarships, and an offer of unsubsidized loans. However, I made the conscience choice to pay the tuition myself rather than take loans. I realize that part was my choice.
You didn't need to take loans because you were financially well off enough to pay off your tuition. Do you know who isn't rich enough to do that?
Like I said, I'm paying it out of pocket, not my parents.
Actually I think you'll find most people have to take out loans in the US of A, you're just offered an incredibly steep interest rate and no grants based on parental income.

Are you your parents July?
You received no stafford loans?

clicking on this thread was like figuratively walking in on my parents having sex

Don't know so much about the $100k Mormon family out in Utah and how much they reflect the general population. Pretty scary if they're just shooting out kids with no support. I suppose the government needs a baby catch fund program to save them.
You guys realize that the reason those funds exist is to help fund trailblazers who will put their family into an education environment where their kids and families can succeed.
I'm completely in support of financial aid for poor kids. I'm in support of more financial aid for absolutely everything, and cuts in military and industry to pay for it.
