Question RE: Ethereal

The question posed in this thread is not necessarily one of the moderation team, the site owner lucidrains/Phillip Wang, or other moderators/admins on the moderation team of this website.

People are calling for Ethereal's head because they were recently promoted from role moderator to moderator. The people calling for Ethereal to be demodded are generally viewing and accusing Ethereal as a predator.

My question is, if you guys care so much about Ethereal being a potential predator, should you not be arguing that Ethereal should be site banned? (Personally, I don't think Ethereal should be site banned. She has done her time for being banned and is currently a very big help for the moderators and cheating investigation team, in my opinion.) Your argument seems to not want to rid the website of possible predators, but to just make sure they don't become moderators. It doesn't really make much sense to me.

And even if Ethereal is demodded, guess what? She's still going to help with Cheating cases and finding banned users... nothing is going to change (except that she won't be able to do reports). Is that really going to be a sigh of relief for all of you?

So if Ethereal is demodded, what difference is it to you people if she's still allowed to be on the website...?

EDIT:

I am in favour of demodding Ethereal to please the community fwiw (I was before I even made this thread), but if we do that I don't really get why they are even allowed to be on the site anyways. I'm seeing these arguments I just don't agree with them; potential is potential at the end of the day, and I believe Ethereal should be allowed to stay on the site

I'd like to see Arcbell's mod app and specifically what he answered for "why do you want to be a mod" because if he genuinely, selflessly wanted to help out the community he'd step down and help out from the sidelines.

so that's a reason to mod him is to ensure he doesn't need to hack anyone?
His very existence on the site is a security threat, is what I'm saying. He's too good at coding/hacking for, perhaps, his own good.

not the point. he's being rewarded for hacking the site and is not the type of person who should be given tools to ban people

Whenever people talk about either Sammie or Arcbell, they throw one under the bus and make the other sound not so bad.

Both of these users should be demodded immediately.

I'm not entirely caught up on the Arcbell situation, so I'm not going to accuse him of smth that I don't know about. Anyway:

Did you not know Petri was getting modded, or did you not know Petri was a pedophile?

i've seen people disapprove of some mods for really stupid reasons but this is a security concern and solace not taking it seriously is disappointing.

This is actually getting worse.. Yes we get it, you modded them because they've done good work in the recent past.. Good for them.. But what if they decide to go bad again and start doing things they used to do? Who will be responsible for that if that happens? Why are all of you so stubborn when almost the entire community is against it? Anyone with slightest of common sense would know its better to be careful with these things..

Literally the only way I can see you justify this in your head is "they're my friends and I would have fun modding with them" and when you do that you're not taking into account the personal information of literally everyone on the entire site

Arcbell has a notepad document with user info on it, on where they live and personal information, god knows if hes used hacking to supplement it

I want a full list of beneficial uses Arcbell has brought to the website. I also want to know why he needs to be a site moderator or in fact have any position of power to be able to help the site.
Arcbell was a great guy and helped me out when someone had wanted to dox me - he's been nothing but a good friend and person to me. Do I think he'd actually do something malicious or try to really hurt someone? no. But I also think that given he swiped everyone's passwords and has hacked the site he probably shouldn't be a moderator

ARCBELL IS A ROLE MOD. WHY WOULD YOU MAKE A ROLE MOD TEAM IF YOU GONNA RUIN IT. THEY WERE DOING FINE CATCHING CHEATERS, YET YOU HAD TO MOD THEM SO THEY CAN EITHER FCK THE SITE OR FKING DO NOTHING

Arcbell posted inappropriate images from my account. My account is still most likely at risk and could be hacked at any moment. So, you know, if goatse gets posted just know, it was Arcbell.

I support Arcbell being a mod - they've written a lot of helpful userscripts for the cheating team.

I don't believe arc meant any harm with the pm they sent to the mods.

he just hacked my account a month ago, i have user's phone numbers and addresses in there, that they've sent me to catch up

honestly this is not okay how do you not see this
