is the R word a "slur" against? I'm failing to comprehend how a word can universally be a slur without the definition or origin of the word being derogatory.
I'm failing to see why I have 2 violations for a word I was using in context of it's definition:
I have a violation for using the R word as a non-personal insult towards the Sheriff shooting the uncc'd cop.

In all honesty lads, if you choose to spend your time on the internet, you can't get upset about stuff this petty.

if you go into every single game as town and use the word (pranay) then you should get a violation, yes. If you in one game out of anger say the word because the clear / the town eff'd up, which in this meta happens far too often then you shouldn't get a violation. Good job Shacky, you got it. Zovea's vios should be OT'd btw
This is an invalid reason, especially in light of Y being able to be offended by a word that doesn't apply to them.

The only way Y is going to be legitimately offended by a non-directive, one-time use is if they're a massive bellend.

i can dig Sims' idea to only punish if it's being used multiple times/purposely. i don't think just one slip up should be moderated but maybe watch the user for history of usage maybe like if theyre reported multiple times
zovea, the two-part argument is "even if x didn't mean it like that, y can still be offended, therefore outlawing it prevents all potential offensiveness" and "if we start letting x say 'i didn't mean it like that' then z who did mean it like that will say 'i didn't mean it like that' so they don't get in trouble"
Reread my post in the context of what I quoted. That section of your post is dumb and invalid, but you can start by not disqualifying every situation because of "potential to be a slur".

Nah. Quite frankly, I hate seeing people use the word as a derogatory, but at the same time I don't think it's fair to completely shut something out if it is not being used to offend somebody. Obviously there is a line to be drawn here, ie racist slurs, but something like the R word shouldn't be an automatic vio. Context is important.
i don't think anyone should be using the word, but i don't want to punish people for having it slip out in the heat of the moment during a game. if you make an effort to at least stop using it, i'll try to change the hc rule around to benefit that.

I think there should be some leeway for people who use it in a non directive manner. I understand that it's a slur, but it's so indented in peoples' vocabulary with no connotations that relate it being used as a slur.
to say something is r is essentially to say something is "equivalent to being r" which is just as bad as saying someone is r

put it in quotation marks or zovea will think you're being literal
Everything I do is literal. I think it's why people don't like me.

use words that can be slurs in a "non-hateful way" not only is really difficult to moderate, but it comes at the expense of a lot of people's comfort without you realizing it.
You can't read context surrounding the use of a single word?
if someone calls someone the N-word as a friend and they don't know they're friends....
i worked as a mod on a forum and uses of the N-word (both spellings), homophobic slurs and the R-word were removed if they were involving people, whether they were friends or not; because context is indeed hard to moderate. especially if the party reporting it would have them on their friends list, because it's like... are they offended or not?
so yes, they can read context; but it's a lot harder than you think it would be.

i live in the south.
the south still has roads, prominent buildings ect with names of confederate generals who fought to keep black people oppressed, people ly the confederate flags in the south still. the south is full of hatred to everyone who isn't a white male so that doesn't surprise me that you would hear that, in the south.
yea it sucks here can i live in canadia with you and the moose
but actually my point with that was it sadly is still used as a slur in a lot of areas so
yeah probably, im not gona put up a huge fight to get the word un-blacklisted since i don't personally say it or say it often in games or anywhere for that matter so it doesn't affect me.
u should actually raise ur kids in canada if u have any, the last big thing that happened in my area was cops shooting a black bear (lol) that had come out of a forest or something and was running in peoples backyards and a lot of people were upset saying "The cops should've used less lethal force on the bear"

everyone has different interpretations of that context and reactions to what's said.
AAAAA YOUR INTERPRETATION OF WHAT I SAID IS WRONG YOUR FEELINGS ARE INVALID BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY I MEANT 'X' AND NOT 'Y' AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
To be honest, if you're calling someone retárded then it's a lot worse than saying that a situation is retárded. Seriously, why the hell is that censored?
