Okay so, I officially committed to a college today. I'll be going there in the fall. A majority of my knowledge about college comes from stuff that I've seen in TV shows, movies and have heard from random people. For those of you who are actually enrolled in a university right now, how is it like and what should I expect?
not even isolated, they just "settle" i guess for the group they have and they're okay with it! like I go to the bar with the same group of friends every tuesday for taco tuesday. but if new people joined us, we'd be cool with it.

clique is such a high school word and a high school way of putting it, but it's the easiest way to explain it to someone that hasn't lived it

it's no different than any other level of school, once cliques form it's hard to penetrate them as an outsider. it's just that everyone's slate gets wiped clean freshman year and they get a chance for form new cliques.
yeah, after freshmen year everyone kinda becomes isolated in their dorms and barely branches out socially. i made the vast majority of my friends in the dorm, study abroad or chinese class.
I second the summer courses bit. You won't do anything other than play games all day anyway and it helps you graduate faster/recover from changing majors (which you will)
definitely don't do acid on a wednesday night and go to class the next day still tripping.
also, don't dorm with friends, it ruins friendships, especially if you guys are polar opposites in living styles.
also take as many winter/summer courses as you can afford. you'll thank me later.
also, become friends with as many people as you can freshman year because lots of people drop out after their first year, and so your friend pool gets smaller, by your 2nd or 3rd year you'll have a solid group of go to friends and thats all that matters.
yeah exactly. i definitely enjoyed the apartment, but for different reasons.
I like the unpredictably of dorming and just the opportunity to chill with a lot of different people all the time.
Apartment was nice because i could make a sweet love chamber and cook for cute girls. i also had waterfront property ie on a man made lake, it was tight.
yeah i agree. I dormed for 3/5 years i went to school and I preferred apartment just because I didn't like having roommates or the living style of dorming, but it is an experience you do not want to miss!

real answer: college is exactly what you make of it because it's the easiest time you'll ever have finding like-minded people with similar interests. the movie version of college is only a thing if you want it to be.
living on campus is a once in a life time type thing. living off campus is pretty similar to what life in an apartment is like after college. it has its perks, but the social life of a good dorm has no comparison.
I've lived in an apartment since freshman year and I have no regrets because I'm a loner
i had an apartment for 3 semesters and while I did really enjoy it, it's the kind of experience you'll be able to have after college. Dorming is unique in that way.

Prepare to enjoy and hate your life. Congratulations though, you will love it more than you will hate it. Just don't do anything stupid, and these will be the absolute best years of your life. But remember that you're in college for academics.

Also congratulations on choosing a college! I didn't choose til a month before school started...whoops! It's a big load to have off your mind going into the summer. You're growing up...first a girlfriend, now college...*sniff*
