Welfare and Voting

Gigaabout 12 years ago

This question has been on my mind for a while now. Should people on welfare have the right to vote? Discuss. I am merely interested in others' opinions.

If you voted 'Other' and chose to comment below, please elaborate. Don't be a dips*** like Diabolik

Since some people clearly can't see what I voted in the poll, I think that people on welfare should be allowed to vote.

Poll
Should people on welfare have the right to vote?

KHNM I totally didn't say that! I don't think only the rich should be taxed, for sure. :)

hmm i never thought of it that way malaka - are you studying sociology?

I think the main downside of welfare is it gives an excuse for the race baiters to push there agenda

urgh if i argue on em i get nowhere. but i suppose I cannot resist now.

I don't believe the government's job is to provide for people, it's to protect. In a perfect world, welfare would come from the good nature of citizens and not have to be forced out of everyone--some who quite possibly are on the verge of going on welfare and the taxes put them in a dangerous spot!

So, I'm not for or against, but in a perfectly governed system, it would not be needed.
I agree with you, the government's job is to protect the property of people. In fact, i'm pretty sure that 99% of the people on welfare are on welfare due to taxes, if we didn't have taxes then those people would either have enough money to not qualify for welfare or they'd be dead and will be stopped from stealing from the hardworking Americans who are on the verge of welfare. Either way, we should get rid of welfare, and I think the best way to do that is to stop the people on welfare from voting.

All this article has told me is that low income families pay "virtually" no taxes. What it doesn't say is that even small taxes affect these families a lot!

Melody: The government shouldn't give money to the very-needy because it takes money from the little-bit-needy.

Empire:

Melody: but that money is not being taken from the little-bit-needy

And I'm not arguing against welfare or against taxes by any means, so like...? :)

"Low income families pay virtually no estate tax." Well no duh, they don't have homes. They rent.

Giga - if people on welfare couldn't vote, then everybody else would vote to end welfare, but that would bring the welfare recipients back into the voting population, only worse off than they were before. So your thread is kind of silly my man

I do. Again, have you ever been on the verge of being on welfare??
I'm not answering this, largely because irrelevant and it's anecdotal in nature and you still haven't read the page I linked whatsoever.
I did though. I'm not trying to argue with you o; calm down! Geez!

Even a small numbers affect so much and cause so much strife. You don't even know. ^_^
deleteddeletedabout 12 years ago
Also, you should avoid making assumptions, because it might turn out you're wrong, in which case that'd be really embarrassing.

adverbs are the enemy, so i subjugate them into phrasal adjectives
I believe in the open oppression of adverbs so that we might extract their surplus value whilst keeping them under foot where they belong.
