Welfare and Voting

about 11 years

This question has been on my mind for a while now. Should people on welfare have the right to vote? Discuss. I am merely interested in others' opinions.

If you voted 'Other' and chose to comment below, please elaborate. Don't be a dips*** like Diabolik

Since some people clearly can't see what I voted in the poll, I think that people on welfare should be allowed to vote.

Should people on welfare have the right to vote?

also, it's nice to give the hyphen some work. i feel bad that the spacebar has a job after practically every word while the hyphen has to sit there and wait for philanthropists like melody or myself to come along and give them a hand-out

that was literally your argument, cantankerous. "I AM RIGHT AND HERE ARE TWO WEBSITES CONTAINING SOME OF THE SAME WORDS THAT MY POST DID"

potatoes are inherently bananas. ignorance of bananas does not make said fruit not a banana.

in a perfectly-governed system, melody, you would have been better educated

Why did you hyphenate an adverb-adjective construction

ok ^_^

welfare is an inherently racial topic. ignorance of racial topics does not make said topic not racial.

again - giga's post say nothing about race.

your posts have both been about race.

this discussion is about welfare and voting - not race. if you want to race-bait, start a race-baiting thread.

urgh if i argue on em i get nowhere. but i suppose I cannot resist now.

I don't believe the government's job is to provide for people, it's to protect. In a perfect world, welfare would come from the good nature of citizens and not have to be forced out of everyone--some who quite possibly are on the verge of going on welfare and the taxes put them in a dangerous spot!

So, I'm not for or against, but in a perfectly governed system, it would not be needed.

malaka - money already does buy additional votes, so the system is working as intended!

This is a tough question. I have been on welfare, and I haven't voted. Our founding fathers envisioned an America where black people couldn't vote, and what was their reasoning behind this? Well, there are countless theories but I believe it's mostly because they thought black people were lazy *** who wouldn't get off their couch and find a damn job(southern black people didn't even start looking for jobs until the 1860s). The modern version of this are people on welfare, and I believe our founding fathers would believe that they shouldn't vote. In fact, if people on welfare were really poor enough to need money from the government, they should be required not to vote in order to actively seek for a job. Also, I believe that bill gates should get 1% of America's vote, because he gives more in taxes, but that's for another discussion.
