Site to be shut down

over 10 years

Unfortunately, Google decided to shut down the Adsense anyhow. I've asked for an appeal, but if they do not reply by the end of the month, I will be shutting down the site. Thanks for the good times, but I suppose it's time for me to move on.

TO BE FAIR i doubt he meant for it to go this far. I'm not defending his actions, because I still think it was wrong, but Riot has put a lot of time into this site too. Perhaps tone it down a bit. Spreading hate is not going to help anything.

I won't mind doing that if it means that I can still play EM.

Can the google Adsense policy be waived in some regard if the age limit for the site is raised, officially?

I think the no data saving solution will get us the adsense trust back.

We should probably further eliminate anything that would violate TOS before filing the appeal IMO.

It would be in Lucid's best interest to take the site offline and remove anything even remotely unsafe.

At this point, I would not even be against a full site sweep. Delete all user accounts, all games, all posts.

Start completely fresh as if it were opening D1 of this site 5+ years ago. (Though I imagine it will make a lot of users mad with all their hard work gone).

If Adsense denies service after this kind of sweep, then there's nothing we can do as the concept of the site itself breaks their rules.

All hail Sachy, best admin I ever had.

On the final day you can quote me saying that being on this website was truly an 'Epic' ride, that way nobody can get mad at me for using such a s***y pun before the ruby apocalypse.

Count the number of unique posters. Now take 2/3 of that number and that is the number of donators you will have. Maybe 20?

someone buying it + having it stay up longer than it will be (it's looking like 4 days till lucid says otherwise) is better than it shutting down.

This is what you think, but have you ever experienced it with another website?

well a forum yeah

Maybe with the extra addition that no one may make a profit off of it.

Opensourcing it seems like a good idea if it all goes to bleep. Shove it on github or similar.

personally if i were lucid i would NOT sell the site. i wouldn't trust anyone else to keep the site operating at my standards, e.g. afraid that someone would heavily monetize off of my work.
that's just me tho

As far as keeping the site up:

I think everybody was thinking of filtering in terms of forums, but it should be implemented in games, profiles, lobby comments, and lobby chat as well. Basically any text that's being put onto the site. On tumblr you can't send pm's with anything that resembles a link. Perhaps something like that could be implemented site-wide to prevent porn sites being linked. Comp, Games, Training, and other major lobbies are closely monitored, but smaller custom lobbies and their forums aren't. I'm not sure how to fix that, but trolls could easily exploit these lobbies.

I don't know if this is the best route, but if this is the route Lucid wants to try to go, then I think we really need to buckle down in order to avoid being ditched by AdSense.

why do i feel only bumpers has a brain here. I used to think pranay was somewhat smart but now i see him randomly grasping at straws not looking at this realistically.

I've experienced this issue with YTMND and other sites. If the site isn't to be guys you will ruin your memories by having it on life support rather than going out on a high note. Just hope that the appeal works.

honestly, I wouldnt call these last few months a high note

Stop talking about buying it. Lucid won't sell it, he'll take the code to his grave. You just sound like fucking idiots.
over 10 years
the funny part is that all of us have adblockers and the site runs on advertisements. Those advertisement guys think we actually buy their products because we see it on this site.

most of them would pay out of their own pockets to pay for this little hobby.

i would, and im sure a lot of other people would, but i don't know if lucid would want to do that. it's 100% his code, he really has no incentive to let us use it. im sure some of the people with programming experience will make a clone site though.

I'm not saying to not look at other ideas, but it's really annoying seeing emotionally provoked "buy the site" messages.
