Public school pros: you don't have to be rich; controlled by state to make sure curriculum doesn't go nuts (in a bad way); looks more impressive on college resumes
Cons: offers basic classes, teachers often have degrees from local unis with loose major requirements, classes not rigorously taught, favors tedious work over innovative problem solving, most classmates don't care...
And then there are the flaws in High School itself. Like the fact that the primary motivation for students to do stuff like become officers in clubs or do community service is purely to get admitted to college. The valedictorian from class of 2016 failed almost all of her end-of-year exams because she already got admitted to her top choice and didn't care. That upset me so much!!
When I was president of a club, all my officers stopped coming to the meetings after the first quarter. Whenever I asked them to do something, they always procrastinated and never got it done. My Vice President of Communication even lied on his college application and claimed to be the President of my club. I was so upset.
