The Bible Thread

about 8 years

Ask anything. I will not answer you. I will give you God's answer straight out of the Bible.

"For all the things that were written beforehand were written for our instruction, so that through endurance and through the comfort from the scriptures we might have hope." - Romans 15:4

As time goes by, I will add important teachings to this opening thread, for ease of access to popular topics.

If you want to ask me personal questions, just PM me.

NOTES: 1.) I answer the questions in the order they were received. But if I feel that an answer I gave was either incorrect or not complete enough, I will definitely go back and revise it. 2.) I cite ALOT of scriptures, and when I do that, it's not so you can just assume that there's a scripture related to what I said. I want you to look it up yourself. You can do that easily by copy/pasting the cited scripture into the search field at: wol.jw.org Once you do that, you can view multiple translations by clicking the verse number, and you can see the chapter that the verse is from by clicking the link to the citation.

Assuming that all choices that God makes are moral and that the Bible is an accurate representation of God, Why does He command genocide in 1 Samuel 15:2–3?

"2 Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘I have noted what Amalek did to Israel in opposing them on the way when they came up out of Egypt. 3 Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey."

Serious question! I've never been given a good answer as to -why- this had to happen.

I really appreciate your concern. As humans, we sometimes find it difficult to understand why God does the things that he does. But we have to remember that he is a lot smarter than us, and can see the whole situation. (Isaiah 55:9) I'm not going to leave it there though. Let's analyze this passage.

(words)

Thanks for the response, but this answer still seems fairly wrong.

It's basically saying "Because a certain amount of the Amalekites came after Israel, every women/child/man/animal/the entire lineage of every Amalelkite ever deserves to be slaughtered with no mercy."

Clearly, the infants are not at fault for what the grown-ups did. This is a disturbing issue, then. Furthermore, God's solution to fix the problem was simply commanding his men to commit genocide?

This is God we're talking about! He could have fixed this problem in any feasible way! Why was killing infants part of the plan? Again, it still seems very strange.

[smoking analogy in linked article]

Smoking is factually harmful to the human body. Someone smoking does not indicate they disagree with this fact, and if they do then they are simply misinformed. This is not a comparable situation. Even if you were just to boil it down into a moral argument, it wouldn't be comparable. Because the things that are celebrated for straight people are considered immoral if you're gay. It's not the acts that are being condemned (love/romance, sex in a relationship/marriage), it's dependent on the type of people doing the acts, and guess what that's prejudice! Right in the Bible too, ouch! To each their own beliefs, but don't feel victimized when you're called out for what they really constitute.

And for the records, I don't think every Christian against homosexuality is necessarily prejudiced, since the belief usually stems from "what does the Bible say"... If you try to rationalize it anymore than that, you're fooling yourself.

I have to go attend to life, currently I am in the middle of addressing AdachiSan's first question, and if Kassidy posts answering my question, I will respond to her first. When I return I will post an answer to Adachi, and BTW, since it looks like you have a ton of questions, it's easier for me if you just compile a list and put them all into one big post.

BTW Escurai, since ur right there, There is no scriptures in support of or out of support of the idea that the spelling of a word has anything to do with anything. Especially since, dog is only god spelled backwards in english, and the bible was written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.

See ya'll probably in 3 days.

What if God just really likes to see us suffer and you follow all of his rules and get to the pearly gates and he goes "lol trolled" and you go to hell anyway?

It appears Homosexuality is a popular topic, so I've posted an article that deals in depth with the scriptural view of the subject in the Opening Post. You can go to the link, and have the article read to you while you follow along, and you can click on scriptures to have them appear to you.

I'm also gonna post it here, just because: https://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/awake-no4-2016-august/bible-say-about-being-gay/

What if God is totally real but everything he wrote in that bible was just a load of crap to see what kind of nonsense you'd believe, and he's up there on his throne of salt pillars laughing at you and going "Man, she actually bought that crap about the f.ucking boat with every animal on it."

What if God is just a liar? What is he is just lying? What magical force dictates that God cannot be a liar? What is Satan tried to save us from being turned into magic salt pillars?

Ecclesiastes 1:17 And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.

in your own words, what does this mean to you?

I would like to say I am not here to give my own words, but I will inevitably do so.

What he was trying to do is explained slightly better in Ecclesiastes 7:25 which says "I directed my heart to know and explore and to search for wisdom and the reason behind things, and to understand the wickedness of stupidity and the folly of madness." In that verse, it is clear that he was baffled by why stupid people do the stupid things that they do, and he was trying to figure it out. If we look back in 1:17, here is the Kaioxys translation:

"I tried my best to gain wisdom, that I would understand insanity and foolishness, but it was a waste of time."

So what he is saying, in my own words, is: "There is no point in trying to understand stupidity."

As a side note.I appreciate his grand conclusion at Ecclesiastes 12:13 which says "The conclusion of the matter, everything having been heard, is: "Fear the true God, and keep his commandments, for this is the whole obligation of man."

What a bizarre f.ucking punishment. Salt? Really? Are we sure God is mentally competent? Maybe the guy is losing his marbles, and that's why Africa is the way it is.
