The Bible Thread

Ask anything. I will not answer you. I will give you God's answer straight out of the Bible.

"For all the things that were written beforehand were written for our instruction, so that through endurance and through the comfort from the scriptures we might have hope." - Romans 15:4

As time goes by, I will add important teachings to this opening thread, for ease of access to popular topics.

If you want to ask me personal questions, just PM me.

NOTES: 1.) I answer the questions in the order they were received. But if I feel that an answer I gave was either incorrect or not complete enough, I will definitely go back and revise it. 2.) I cite ALOT of scriptures, and when I do that, it's not so you can just assume that there's a scripture related to what I said. I want you to look it up yourself. You can do that easily by copy/pasting the cited scripture into the search field at: wol.jw.org Once you do that, you can view multiple translations by clicking the verse number, and you can see the chapter that the verse is from by clicking the link to the citation.

Was Jesus a Roman Hoax to trick the Jews into submitting to Roman ideology? Have you noticed that the origin story of Jesus is nearly identical to the origin story of the Cult of Mithras? Do you think Jesus was created to impose a Roman ideology onto the figure of Mithras, who predates Christ?

Why is everything in the bible ripped off straight from Zoroaster?

No it wasn't, no I didn't, and btw, the proof of Jesus' resurrection is the fact that his following is so widespread. Notice how people reacted when Jesus died. All his followers went back to doing what they had been doing before. (John 21:3) But after they realized he was resurrected, no one could stop the preaching work, and Jesus is as famous as he is today. (Acts 5:28-32)

If anything, zoroastrianism stole from the bible, like many other religions, being that Zoroaster created it about 600 years after the current bible was already completed. Note that the idea of dualism is not a biblical teaching.

Now think about this, what did Lot's wife turn back to? What did she have compassion for? "The men of Sodom were wicked, gross sinners against Jehovah." (Genesis 13:13) If she was really feeling compassion for them after bearing witness to all the wickedness that they had committed, what can we say? These are men who had, Immediately before this happened, intended to Lot and the Angels staying with him in his house. (read Genesis 19:1-9)Honestly, how dare she have compassion for them!? It is written, "Oh you who love Jehovah, hate what is bad." (Psalm 97:10)

To finish this off, I will end on a wonderful scripture we should all take to heart: "This is what Jehovah says, your Repurchaser, the Holy One of Israel: "I, Jehovah, am your God, The One teaching you to benefit yourself, The One, guiding you in the way you should walk. If only you would pay attention to my commandments! Then your peace would become just like a river and your righteousness like the waves of the sea. Your offspring would be as many as the sand and your descendants as it's grains. Their name would never be cut off or annihilated from before me." - Isaiah 48:17-19

MAIN POINT: Do what God tells you to do, because it's good for you.

God is actually going to get read of death.

Well, that's a relief. How's he going to get a read of him? Does this mean I don't have to die after all?

True christian warfare is not against other humans(Ephesians 6:12). Also, Jesus said to Peter "Return your sword to it's place." And Later went to explain to Pontius Pilate “My kingdom is no part of this world. If my kingdom were part of this world, my attendants would have fought that I should not be delivered up to the Jews. But, as it is, my kingdom is not from this source.” (John 18:36) As Jesus' Kingdom is not part of this world, there is no reason for true christians to fight in any wars against other humans. The "Holy Wars" carried out by those proclaiming to be christian is a crime against God himself, and they will not go unpunished.

As for your concern about Lot's Wife, she was given clear instruction. "Do not look behind you and do not stand still in any part of the district! Escape to the mountainous region so that you may not be swept away!" (Genesis 19:17) And you may think, so what, she didn't listen, what's the big deal? And you forget that not listening to simple instruction is what got us in this sinful state in the first place. (Genesis 3:3) 'Don't eat this tree' could have been the only rule God was ever going to give mankind, and just left the tree there as a sign to show that man was continuing to be submissive to God. But they did not remain submissive and rebelled.

I've gotten sidetracked. Think about the significance of the instruction that was given. They were told to leave and not stop moving. Now, if you are walking, or as they probably were, running in a direction, it is not easy to look behind you. But where does this show that her focus was? It was not on the things ahead, that God had offered her. It is for this same reason that Peter began to sink when he was walking on the water towards Jesus. (see Matthew 14:29,30) He got distracted, and lost focus of Jesus. Likewise in the days of Noah, people were not focused on God, but they forgot the one that gave them everything. (Matthew 24:38,39)

Let me give an example: Jesus Christ made a prayer to God in the garden of Gethsemane,(read Matthew 26: 36a, 39, 42) and what he wanted was not in line with God's will. But Jesus showed us here the prime example by saying "let, not my will, but yours take place." (Luke 22:42) This is the attitude we need to have with regards to prayer. Let God's will be done. Maybe he did answer the prayer, but the answer was merely not what you had expected.

What is the benefit of christianity? "God recommends his own love to us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then(in reference to rejoicing and enjoying the peace of God, See verses 1-5), since we have now been declared righteous by his blood(see Matthew 26:28), will we be saved through him from wrath."

So, through faith that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ's human body and blood is enough compensation for God to forgive us of our sins, we can be spared of the death that comes through sin(see Romans 6:23). Hence, although we are forced into sin and therefore death via inheritance and not through any fault of our own, we have a chance at escaping death and living forever. (John 3:16)

As for crime being a worthy god, I lol'd. Just because people who are pretending to serve God go out and cause wars does not mean that God himself is bad. A town can still lose with good PRs if the villagers refuse to listen to them, and especially if they decide to lynch the PRs.

Why is death the only God that comes when you call for him?

The benefit of Christianity is ostensibly morality. The old adage goes "Without God, everything is permissible." However, more people have died in the name of Yahweh since the year 1 BCE than have died of crime in the entirety of human history. What tangible benefit do you claim of Christianity? If crime kills less than religion does, is crime not a more worthy God than your own?

One of my favorite literary quotes is as follows: “And Lot's wife, of course, was told not to look back where all those people and their homes had been. But she did look back, and I love her for that, because it was so human. So she was turned into a pillar of salt."

^ Why was Lot's wife turned into a pillar of salt? Her only crime was compassion. Pure, innocent, and permeating compassion. For what reason did Lot's wife die? Did she die because she did not follow God's senseless command that she show no compassion in the face of genocide? If so, what makes God any better than a dictator? On what grounds does God assume that his morality is correct?

P.S. I noticed you made a post saying I didn't answer your questions, well, I DIDN'T answer your question. I was still answering projectmatt's question, but it was longer than 2000 characters, so I had to split it into two posts. I'll be sure to make a note in further posts that require multiple posts.

Anyhow let's get right into it:

God is actually going to get read of death. (Isaiah 25:8;Revelation 21:4) If you feel that God is not listening to you when you call on him, take a couple things in mind: When you pray, you must believe God exists and that he will answer your prayer. (Hebrews 11:6) Additionally, and most importantly you must accept that whatever you pray must be according to God's will for him to answer you. (1 John 5:14)

It's okay, I saw what Adachi said and I felt like sharing a thought I have always had. I think religions that condemn infants are teaching a really really really stupid doctrine.
