anyone who owns a gun

is a potential murderer/mass shooter

gun laws do not correlate with mass shootings
deletedalmost 9 years
if someone wanted to really commit a mass murder, then they'll get themselves a gun, legal or not legal. they're both extremely easy to get.
edit: in fact, legally getting a gun is much harder, but we're talking about people getting them from their parents, so i digress

listen, you guys are basically saying the same things over and over again when it comes to gun laws, and why we should have stricter ones, even though i just gave a blatantly clear FACT that is present today that everyone seems to keep ignoring, so i'm going to delve deeper into this.

the united states already has faaaaaaaaaaar too many guns in the country. too many. far more than whatever country you're from. and they're easily accessible. no amount of gun laws are removing these guns from the country. sorry. that makes my previous point stand even more. criminals will obtain guns, and bypass the law, and kill people with them no matter how many gun laws or bans you wish to see implemented.

also, being realistic. guns are NEVER going to be banned in america. sorry again. it's never going to happen. about half of the states in this country are never going to let that happen. so instead of two different extremes, one that says ban guns, and the other that wants to hoard guns, we need to find a reasonable solution in the MIDDLE, because this debate can and will go on forever with nothing happening otherwise.

this is a silly argument since perpetrators in mass shootings (not gang related shootings) usually end up obtaining their gun of choice from a parent or a relative. The point of this is, the person they get the gun from has the gun primarily due to feeble gun laws in that district.

yes, this is true, but if guns were banned, and their parents didn't have these guns, they'd just go to the corner and purchase an illegal one. that was just the easiest way for them to obtain it.

americans are some of the funniest people when they try to defend their right to own guns, and always come up with some weird and funny excuses as to why gun laws wouldn't drastically stop the amount of mass shootings that happens in their country, the one with over 300 million guns.

Conservative: base word conserve - prevent the wasteful or harmful overuse of (a resource).

Yeah, this doesn't make sense.

I think it's a bit late for the U.S.. Gun culture is so deeply entrenched in their society that it'd probably take a century for every single restricted gun to make it's way out of the population.

so instead of bashing americans, what is your solution? i already explained why gun laws are stupid, so instead of saying the same crap over and over again, come up with a good idea, otherwise you're debating for no reason

I think this chat will give you a pretty clear solution

Stricter gun laws.

And what? From the looks of it you only upvoted your own post..?

as to your point, if you're trying to debate in this thread, surely you're smart enough to know that simple strict gun laws isn't enough to do anything, like at all. here in chicago, where guns are basically banned, there are more gun deaths than any other city in america. laws will not do anything, because criminals will still own guns. that's why they are criminals, they break the law.

the problem with mass shootings isnt so much gun laws, its more about the media glamorizing/publicizing it. You can't do anything about that tho.

Yes, journalists should be much more considerate in the way they report, and not make enormous stories about the tale behind the shooting and what message the obviously insane shooter was trying to send.

Thats not the problem. any publicity is good publicity. Media is what spreads awareness of issues but its also how things become mainstream.

Most law students learn that with any major event laws that are good are changed due to media publicity. On the flip side, you can't expect a newspaper to say 'there was a mass shotting but there is nothing wrong with current laws'

The problem with focusing so much on gun laws is that we have no idea if that will actually make a difference, and by the time that such a big change would actually take effect, it is certain that many more mass shooting would occur in that time and many more lives would be lost.

all i read from this post was "We don't know that guns are the reason people are able to use guns that are legal in the US to commit mass murders on the greatest scale in any first world country."

then "well, a lot of people have guns so lets not stop people from getting guns now"
