No one in this thread actually wants to talk about mental illness and the prison warehousing industry. I don't see anyone talk about it except every few weeks when something like this happens.

This post infuriates me. Are you implying that Corrections Officers do not try to rehabilitate the prisoners? That they simply house the prisoners until their sentence is done, not punishing nor rehabbing?

Did your child get shot? Did you keep your kids from going to school because of it? Did the world stop spinning? Do people keep living their lives anyway?

I guess you're right. I should not fear for my own life when a middle schooler has access to a gun and uses it on an adult. Truly, it's irrational of me to also fear for the welfare of those around me.
