There's another paradox that's pretty interesting, Sirius.
It's called Hanging Man's Paradox.
A man is sentenced by a Judge on Sunday, and told that he would be hung during the next business week, but the day would be on a day he wouldn't expect.
The man, sitting in his cell, pondered this. He realized that he could not be hung on Friday, because it would be the last possible day and he would expect it. Once Friday was eliminated he could also eliminate Thursday, because that would be the last possible day and he would expect it. And so forth. The man became confident that he could not possibly be hung, He was hung on Wednesday, and he didn't expect a god damned thing.
That's you right now Sirius. You're the Hanging Man
if he suspected every day, he wouldn't suspect a day he would suspect

actually i got that one right too. the answer is in fact that forecasted expectation =/= actual expectation. on monday he doesn't know worth a damn if he'll be executed friday. it's only on thursday he can actually exclude friday.

what is in box A?
i feel like it is best to choose A and B because getting something is guaranteed if there is something in box A, and 1 million dollars isn't enough to live on

"Roko's basilisk is a thought experiment about the potential risks involved in developing artificial intelligence. The experiment's premise is that an all-powerful artificial intelligence from the future could retroactively punish those who did not help bring about its existence; even those who merely knew about the possibility of such a being coming into existence incur the risk of punishment."
From now on that you have read this you have to do everything possible to help the Being, because You know of that Being. And if you do not, you may be punished in the future.
"Furthermore, the punishment is for those who knew the importance of the task in advance but did not help sufficiently. In this respect, merely knowing about the Basilisk — e.g., reading this article — opens you up to hypothetical punishment from the hypothetical superintelligence. "
"Note that the AI in this setting is not a malicious or evil superintelligence (AM, HAL, SHODAN, Ultron, the Master Control Program, SkyNet, GLaDOS) — but the Friendly one we get if everything goes right and humans don't create a bad one. This is because every day the AI doesn't exist, people die that it could have saved; so punishing you or your future simulation is a moral imperative, to make it more likely you will contribute in the present and help it happen as soon as possible."
alright i'll give u that one. i might be back to it tho lol

ITT super genius mafia poster "belovedprincess" thinks he has solved not one but two of the most famous logical paradoxes ever created

The man is erroneous in his exclusion, though. You're right about that. Just like you now. That's you.

Once a day is eliminated it is eliminated. It follows the logical parameters set, as paradoxes tend to do

no, that's actually u, sonse.

oh, i suppose he can expect it on one of two days on wednesday night and that counts as a fair exclusion? damn, maybe that he expects it sometime during the week counts as a fair exclusion of him being hung on any day during the week?
deletedabout 9 years
Lmfao that's not even worth a response, it's just plain stupid
deletedabout 9 years
that's not a paradox either. the man was erroneous in his exclusion of days. he expects he will be hung during the week; that's fine. comes to thursday night, he expects friday, so on thursday friday is excluded; that's also fine. but on wednesday he doesn't know if it will be thursday or friday. how do thursday and friday get excluded on wednesday? the fault is in his working back along. forecasted expectation =/= actual expectation. there is no possible **real** exclusion of any day only the friday on the thursday night

I think that's a wrap, folks

again...the prediction and action become a two-way street if the prediction is highly accurate. each defines the other. and both together define the win
deletedabout 9 years
Its predicting whether you will take both boxes or not.
and the prediction defines ur actions 999 times out of 1000, right? therefore, ur actions define ur win 999 times out of 1000. ur actions and the prediction are a two-way street
it's success rate in the past has been very very very high, but that doesn't make its success percentage known exactly
if its success rate is very high, then it will likely be successful, and if u choose the two boxes, for any reason, then u lose, because it was predicted that u would

why are u still making dumb appeals to authority? do u think they faze me?
