Hi. Recently, I've felt that our current rules do not fit the current meta and playerbase, and are outdated in many aspects. I've been thinking about rewriting them in full, but I figured that a more open approach would allow for everyone to be more content if such a thing happened. I want to use this thread to talk about discrepancies in the system and how to appropriately fix or address them. I believe that the rules are not accessible enough based on website design alone and how they are handled. This leads to a lot of complaints that could be thinned down if people came together and defined the rules in such a way that can make everyone (mostly) happy. I want to use this thread as a placeholder and for people to be critical as much as they please with aspects of the report system also, and how we as a team could possibly improve it or get lucid to notice that it is in need of an overhaul. It's a very daunting task, but I want to believe that the people who spend their time in the complaints section, constantly riding on mods or problems with the site, finally will put their money with their mouth is.
The goal of this thread is to hopefully allow new and old users thoroughly understand the rules more clearly so the amount of reports diminishes and people have a more enjoyable experience.
Devante is probably my favourite forum poster about things related to EM, and just about the only one I can stomach to read.

it's funny how u guys spent 10 pages trying to rewrite rules, many of which if you have a brain should be pretty obvious. However somehow none of you seem to see the systemic problem which is the new players have no one to go to, and probably have no idea how to get help (Finding the Mentor sign up) I know when I was a new member I had no idea where the forums was or that there was a mentor program, maybe instead of trying to fix the rule page that new players won't read anyways, maybe you should fix the actual program which is the mentor program. Then have those mentors explain the rules properly and how to play the game to newer players, maybe, just maybe that would do it.
Maybe I've spent the past 2 months saying that for a reason, just maybe.
Not sure if it has been proposed, but in order to raise awareness of this thread, maybe have each mod post in every report's ruling that they close the topic so more people are aware of it's existence. so like:
a GRS report: "GRS 1st, we are currently revamping our rules so if you would like to join in the discussion come here: https://epicmafia.com/topic/70563"

I know mostly only 6 or so people contributed but I really appreciate the feedback. I'm sure connor will have his say when he wakes up too and probably Zovea and co but hey.
Idk maybe you should mention how totalitarian the HC rule actually is so that people don't end up forum banned for behaviors that are barely questionable.
Other than that, it's acceptable to gamethrow through actions that can only result in a lynch or negative outcome for your team so this game/site will remain a joke because you'd rather work on clarifying rules that aren't doing anything.
What are the current rules? I have never felt the need to learn them.

Yeah, but I'm saying there are more important things that are wrong with this site
so make your own thread instead of derailing here by saying "this doesn't matter because X unrelated issue is more important imo."
I never said this doesn't matter, I said that there are other steps that need to be taken as well. I was adding, not derailing or detracting. You honestly need to chill.

that and i've been busy but like, i personally don't see a big issue with the website and rules. the rules page is long because this isn't battleship. there's a lot of elements to the sociality and participation of mafia that have to be addressed. if people don't wanna read the rules and play, that's fine, they shouldn't be breaking any of the mafia rules in the first place if they're playing. the only one i could honestly see being gray is GRS and that's because suiciding isn't really explicitly shown before you do it.
and i think shortening rules and getting rid of explanations is only going to make enforcing rules harder, imo. i think clarifying is more important and valuable than just flat out shortening. who cares if the page is longer than an unedited copy of the bible, most people don't need to read it in the first place. the rules page is more there to say "these are the things that are to be followed and will be enforced if violated", not "please read this and submit your personal understandings of each for the pop quiz next tuesday"
anyway yeah i don't mean to detract from this thread since there's still value in it but error wanted someone to give their opinion and most other mods are busy with Life Stuff

I'm on board with shortening the rules or doing what AMime suggested with the whole 'seperate page that summarizes the rules.' Now it's just a matter of getting the rest of my team on board instead of looking like I'm making all the shots.
not a single one of them has made a significant contribution to this thread (they should really keep in mind that they are still part of the community, and not somehow above it) and that really says a lot.
i think slow said something a few pages ago
