Hi. Recently, I've felt that our current rules do not fit the current meta and playerbase, and are outdated in many aspects. I've been thinking about rewriting them in full, but I figured that a more open approach would allow for everyone to be more content if such a thing happened. I want to use this thread to talk about discrepancies in the system and how to appropriately fix or address them. I believe that the rules are not accessible enough based on website design alone and how they are handled. This leads to a lot of complaints that could be thinned down if people came together and defined the rules in such a way that can make everyone (mostly) happy. I want to use this thread as a placeholder and for people to be critical as much as they please with aspects of the report system also, and how we as a team could possibly improve it or get lucid to notice that it is in need of an overhaul. It's a very daunting task, but I want to believe that the people who spend their time in the complaints section, constantly riding on mods or problems with the site, finally will put their money with their mouth is.
The goal of this thread is to hopefully allow new and old users thoroughly understand the rules more clearly so the amount of reports diminishes and people have a more enjoyable experience.
I would like it if moderators enforced the proper filing of reports from now on as well. If the moderators only handle reports that follow the guidelines in place, it will be less work for the moderator team. Linking the report guidelines thread in the verdict of an incorrectly filed report/appeal along with a short message would be good enough, I'd think. It'd also make people think a bit more before rage/impulse-reporting (remember that too many incorrectly filed reports can warrant a Report Spam violation)
This is probably because the title of the rule and the way they're enforced are usually independent of each other for the sake of No Vio'ing most reports.
You said nothing about the pictures of apes or blackfacing, so please continue to be a joke.
I've yet to meet anyone entitled to feel insulted by the word and should I, I'd handle it appropriately. However lets ignore the fact that words have defined meanings and context that's independent of any social agendas being enforced on this site.
scrap anyone who's no longer interested. send a PM to every mentor and mentee with "if you are interested in being a part of the refurbished mentoring program, respond to this message. note that the new program will require effort from you if you want it to accomodate you. the new system will require effort from both mentors and mentees" and purge anyone who doesn't respond

They'd be shortened to be accessible while still remaining detailed on another page, such as a wiki or a forum thread. I planned to make an announcement about it and hopefully garner people's attention when such happened. Rven if the shortened rules doesn't help and people are still making most mods give out No Violations due to a lack of understanding, we can always revert back.

I've love for the mentor program to become actually useful but that requires actual effort from both mentors and mentees which is very much lacking.
"it's childish to disallow awful words because i believe no one who ever uses this site will be offended by it" "not to mention that normalising the use of the word off-site isn't worth caring about"
wrong- you can try to win even if it is mechanically impossible. I have won in those cases many times. Some times by forcing nl and sometimes by playing my weird tricks
That's because the people you were playing against are incompetent. Actually most of the people you play with are incompetent which is why you're allowed to be awful in most of the games you play.
It's a single source of offense towards stupidity.
If calling people stupid or idiot was offensive we'd use it more. It's currently redundant.
are you misunderstanding the collateral damage the use of this word has? slow already outlined it on the forums, somewhere. that's why it's not allowed

yeah but you can't expect noobs and lowlevel players to do that, and we can't punish people just because they don't try to make others throw away a "guaranteed" win
writing a condensed rule page is actually very easy. [anything in square brackets i'm not sure are necessary] obviously the bolded parts won't be in the rules

and the report violations are not necessary in the rules page since they're just stuff mods use. they'd stay in the violations page as they are. the rules can have an addendum saying "moderators may apply notes to reports for tracking purposes"
of course, this is only if we chose to adopt this format (rule pages and more detailed violation page). i think it's a good idea, and the violations page can also be rewritted to accomodate for the way rules are written, and there's nothing to hold back on when it comes to being specific (since it's no longer the face of the rules)
i merged a couple of spamming and inappropriate rules but that's not to imply the violations would be merged, it's just because it makes sense for a legitimate rule page.

it's funny how u guys spent 10 pages trying to rewrite rules, many of which if you have a brain should be pretty obvious. However somehow none of you seem to see the systemic problem which is the new players have no one to go to, and probably have no idea how to get help (Finding the Mentor sign up) I know when I was a new member I had no idea where the forums was or that there was a mentor program, maybe instead of trying to fix the rule page that new players won't read anyways, maybe you should fix the actual program which is the mentor program. Then have those mentors explain the rules properly and how to play the game to newer players, maybe, just maybe that would do it.
Maybe I've spent the past 2 months saying that for a reason, just maybe.
