Hi. Recently, I've felt that our current rules do not fit the current meta and playerbase, and are outdated in many aspects. I've been thinking about rewriting them in full, but I figured that a more open approach would allow for everyone to be more content if such a thing happened. I want to use this thread to talk about discrepancies in the system and how to appropriately fix or address them. I believe that the rules are not accessible enough based on website design alone and how they are handled. This leads to a lot of complaints that could be thinned down if people came together and defined the rules in such a way that can make everyone (mostly) happy. I want to use this thread as a placeholder and for people to be critical as much as they please with aspects of the report system also, and how we as a team could possibly improve it or get lucid to notice that it is in need of an overhaul. It's a very daunting task, but I want to believe that the people who spend their time in the complaints section, constantly riding on mods or problems with the site, finally will put their money with their mouth is.
The goal of this thread is to hopefully allow new and old users thoroughly understand the rules more clearly so the amount of reports diminishes and people have a more enjoyable experience.

Hateful Comments
Excessive insults against one or more persons/groups based on slurs/comments against race, sexual orientation, religion or other similar personal circumstances. More likely to issue the violation if a person being abused has asked the offender or others in the game or thread to cease.

Definitely need a couple examples of slurs because I've seen time and time again people say things like autistic and r.etarded and genuinely not believe they were slurs.
The part that says "More likely to issue the violation if a person being abused has asked the offender or others in the game or thread to cease." is kind of stupid because it should be taken seriously regardless of who it offends and if they're asked to stop. If the person being attacked isn't offended, cool, but someone else may be. Overall the best way to counter this is to just ban the words overall.
Another thing about " More likely to issue the violation if a person being abused has asked the offender or others in the game or thread to cease." is that it says, "in the game or thread.." which is okay, but I think there should be a part that explicitly states that it doesn't matter if it happens in games or in the forums. It isn't specifically clear.
In my opinion, you should either lessen the "steps" to the ban, or make the punishments harsher. Sure, it's the Internet, but words like these are horrible and people should have to learn the hard way if they can't omit words like these from their vocabulary.
That's all I have to say for now. Sorry if it's still a little vague but that's my input.

I could dig it up. Perhaps I am an idealist but I figure it's worth a shot. The amount of reports mods actually have to deal with are ridiculous and the fact that more than <50% of reports are No Violations shows that the userbase doesn't have a full grasp of the rules or are merely abusing the system.
there's a thread rondar started buried somewhere in the mod forums about rewording the harassment rule. not sure if you guys have found that but if not it might be work digging up.

Shacky had this thought too. We haven't gotten around to it but I think most of the community-related violations could use a bit more elaboration and depth to them.
the hc rule needs to be rewritten. it's cool if there's a zero-tolerance policy on slurs but that should be reflected in the wording of the rule because right now the way it's being moderated is sort of inconsistent with how the rule is written ngl.
