Right
Birdman: this movie honestly embodied everything I enjoyed about film. I came in with high enough expectations and it blew me away. The movie conveyed a message that might've been clichéd or done before, yet it did it in a way that just reeked originality. The acting was undeniably top-notch and the screenplay was just amazing. The cinematography was revolutionary, the directing was stellar, and the plot was more or less made to cater to film buffs like myself. I enjoyed this movie to insane degrees.
Whiplash: the amount of realism and brutal honesty this movie held was just insane. I think every single film attempting at showcasing the Rocky-esque story about overcoming odds should take inspiration from this film, because it does it in a way that touches onto the real world to the extent where you forget you're watching a film. The acting was just incredibly real, you caught every reaction on the actors faces and the movie dealt with its minimal subplots outstandingly well. Not to mention the outstanding JK Simmons performance, which seemed like it was mostly ad-libbed and reminded me a lot of Full Metal Jacket's drilling instructor. This movie hit me like a harpoon honestly, and I am not even a fan of Jazz and have never played in a band before. It's just that great.
