Meh, it displayed how self-critical teenagers can be in a really realistic way, I think. I could relate to the guy a lot, even when he was being sort of a douche (which is a moment when I'd go like "oh man is that how I sound like?").

Plus they incorporated a bunch of really cool subtleties as far as the references and the appearances of supporting characters were concerned. Great effort.

They also went a long way in making the whole "filmed over 12 years" thing a subtle narrative tool that helped immerse you in the story as opposed to an overblown in-your-face stylistic device.

The kid in boyhood sure did drink a lot less than I did

Boyhood made me realize how mediocre my boyhood was
deletedabout 10 years
I thought boyhood was mediocre whereas my parents thought boyhood was "The worst movie we've ever seen, because we already lived this"

Boyhood was wonderful. I'm really impressed. Basil get to watching it ASAP.

Whiplash was very special, I disagree wholeheartedly. I won't repeat myself so just check my in-depth thoughts post.

it honestly comes down to two unlikable people, one who isn't even unlikable in any interesting way and the other who's just a walking trope, yelling at eachother while the narrative takes an unlikely bend -- after the post-car crash band scene the movie just plummeted.
