Blacklist Fancy Pants and Classic

almost 10 years

THE TITLE IS WRONG AND I CANT EDIT IT. IM ASKING FOR PROMOTING OTHER SETUPS IN REDHEARTS, JUST SO FP/CLASSIC AREN'T THE MOST PLAYED SETUPS AS THEY PROMOTE LAZY MAFIA.

Reasons why they should NOT BE THE DEFAULT SETUP OF MAIN LOBBY:

  • promote NLing D1 for insta lylo
  • promote following clears mindlessly
  • are overly reliant on mechanics instead of on actual scumhunting
  • are extremely luck based and promote passive town play which leads to all other setups have higher maf win ratios
  • coinflips are bad
  • promote CC fights instead of actual behaviour reading
  • reliance on swing elements that make the whole game a farce (FP in particular)
  • inflate bad players' win ratios making them think they are better than they really are
Which would be a better default setup for Main?

smor, you might be right about some things but FP/CM are flawed fundamentally and that doesn't stop being true because you say it does lol

You can play FP and Classic AS MUCH AS YOU WANT. Nothing is stopping you from doing so and I actually admit my lack of foresight for not accounting for people who like playing the setups.

I ask that it not be the default setups to play for new players because of all the aforementioned reasons. If all new players learned the ropes as they went and went headfirst into VDLI/BV and other scumhunt setups, we would have a vastly improved community that would not be so hesitant to join gold hearts in fear of being screamed at.

Nobody has made Fancy Pants default setup. WTF is default setup, by the way. It was popular and made its way to the top. All you can do is negbomb FP or kick it out from "find setup list".

Also, one could promote "Featured Setups" more.

Think about it, why is it you don't like to join gold hearts? (Im not directing this to any one person in particular but to those who like playing Red hearts more)

Was it because the first time you did you got screamed at for now knowing what to do?

You got lynched for saying something you shouldn't have?

You were intimidated by all the talking people did?

People were screaming at you to participate more?

The reason you acted that way was because you were used to always acting that way (in FP and Classic) and winning games. It came as a surprise to you that people actually frowned down upon such behaviour.

FP and Classic are part of why the community is so divided between casual players and those who play comp.

BTW, comp Fancy Pants and see what happens, I'm curious

probably a tone of cheaters, though

Classic was comped a little over a year ago. several cheaters got busted, a decently bad player trophied. I played in some of the most stupid games of mafia to ever grace this site. Stacked games of Classic are incredibly unenjoyable.

If you don't believe me, ask anyone in a ranked game why they play ranked fancy pants games instead of unranked. Yes, some may say for the points, but there will also be lots of different reasons as well.

i dont have a problem with introducing new players to comp setups, its just blacklisting fp/classic is just a terrible idea lmao
deletedalmost 10 years
Itg, you're missing the point that people who play fp and classic ranked come to EM to play those set ups, ranked, specifically ranked, and not unranked. Most are not playing to eventually join comp, but to win achievements, kudos, and karma through the makeshift intermediate lobby that is red hearts. Classic IS a scumhunting set up. SO is fancy pants. These set ups are GREAT when you have a good table of players. The influx of new players just sometimes bogs this down.

They play these games ranked knowing that they are serious games, not as silly as unranked, while not as intense as competitive.

Whatever purpose you think training is suppose to fulfill: Its. Purpose. Has. Changed. And blacklisting fancy pants will only drive the large player base who comes to play fp and classic *ranked* away to find an alternative site.

FTR, I've played tons of good, solid non-FP red heart games. And I've played tons of FP games where the people were willing to explain why they thought things. The issue isn't the training vets that have grown accustomed to playing setups like FP over and over, the issue is the lack of diversity.

not even new players dude. even aggressive vet blues succumb to the clears eventually

VDLI or BC being the normal red hearts setup would make this worse

Like, if you had comp 12 person closed roles it'd actually be much better for preparing people for playing comp. I'm not even joking.

@Steven

Barely talking and following the PR to a certain degree still promotes scumhunting. These setups don't.

VDLI being played by 8 "Fancy Pants" adorers is going to be the same. PRs out and clear leads 2 or 3 times per game

Yeah except the oracle doesn't get reports.

Let's RL.

And why is that?

Why is it new players tend to think they don't have to do anything as blue, and, consequently, have no idea how to play solid maf?

Because Fp and Classic promote these behaviour patterns that could be so easily avoided if say, VDLI were the default setup to play.
deletedalmost 10 years
I guess the main focus should probably be on coming up with clever ways to promote setup diversity (like the 2x featured setups) without forcefully attempting to restrict people from playing what they want

To summarise, it isn't that fancy pants isn't a perfectly fine setup for people to play, it's that it needs to cover less than 90-95% of the played red heart setups. (Guns and hookers is the same style of setup and is being counted as it for that percentage range.)

Going to go back to this. This sums everything up.

itg u dumb@ss noob, FP is not at fault for clear-sheepong. thats a site-wide problem

I have been nothing but helpful and patient with new players who try to comp for the first time. The problem is that new comp players find themselves in unfamiliar territory and would much prefer playing games they've become accustomed to (which is the MAIN problem of having Classic and FP as default setups) because it does not prepare them for how different an environmnet comp is.

But!!!!!!!!! What if!!!!!!!!! People like different things???????

You can lead the jaguar to the gazelle, but it won't have sex with it.

You can stack a room of any Classic Mafia variant, but you can't change the fact that it's still a setup where the only form of challenge you get is the 50/50 one (two if you're lucky) days.
