THE TITLE IS WRONG AND I CANT EDIT IT. IM ASKING FOR PROMOTING OTHER SETUPS IN REDHEARTS, JUST SO FP/CLASSIC AREN'T THE MOST PLAYED SETUPS AS THEY PROMOTE LAZY MAFIA.
Reasons why they should NOT BE THE DEFAULT SETUP OF MAIN LOBBY:
promote NLing D1 for insta lylo
promote following clears mindlessly
are overly reliant on mechanics instead of on actual scumhunting
are extremely luck based and promote passive town play which leads to all other setups have higher maf win ratios
coinflips are bad
promote CC fights instead of actual behaviour reading
reliance on swing elements that make the whole game a farce (FP in particular)
inflate bad players' win ratios making them think they are better than they really are
you know FP is a tool to teach new players stuff right? So no point of it being ranked, since noobs come to play ranked suicide and ruin the FP game, don't know the strat etc. So FP would be better unranked, to train new players.
Conclusion. Blacklist Fancy Pants. See how it turns out. Then unblacklist or keep it like that, depends.
im not advocating for a complete blacklist of FP and Classic.
u can play them as much as you want so as long as the game does not reward u the same for playing a 5 minute FP game as it does on a 90 minute+, 20 minute 3 way lylo where u hammer right with 3 unclears.
twelve your argument actually interests me. how do you know people won't just start recreating FP to get around the blacklist, and that they don't actually care what they play?
system is making the points i cannot make and i thank him for fighting the good fight.
People don't want FP and Classic unranked because it basically 'invalidates' the game and makes it look like they play for nothing.
If people actually just wanted to 'have fun', why aren't there more unranked FP and Classic games? The inner competitor in me finds it DISTASTEFUL that a trainging random earns things like achievements, good stats, and points when they shouldn't.
Also, FP and Classic promote unhealthy gameplay patterns which is WHY they should be limited to unranked.
Dang, we've got a smor & dixey tag team going here.
Dixeyy is blissfully unaware that people take time to adjust from one level to the next, apparently. Red hearts is directly before gold hearts, and the skill level required to play normal red heart games is way, wayyy below that required to play regular gold heart games. If you move FP to unranked a magical thing will happen; people will stop playing it. Why will this happen? Because people don't like to think that they spend a lot of time doing nothing. This way they have points to show for the amount of time they've played. Do you see any of the players joining unranked games? No? That's what I thought.
because it invalidates what the points mean (obviously they dont mean anything but iirc any reward satisfies innate human urges) and i am not ok withs some training random who farms FP to have a 60% win rate.
also the problem is trainging tryhards who do play 'competitively' suddenly think they know what theyre doing. if you wanna play FP and Classic, play it unranked.
also, Smorlicious, if you love FP and Classic, why not play them unranked? they should not reward pts the same way an hour long game of TEO does.
also i am actually ashamed abe that i made that mistake its 2:30am tho so not at my sharpest
fp will probably never be banned and it shouldn't be. People like it, I get it. The only thing I don't like about fp is watching it fill every 5 seconds whilst sitting in a gold heart game and crying about how deceiving the amount of people in games being played at the current time are to the people who actually want to play competitively.

also, somehow points are making "fun game" funnier for most people.

Just because one may find fancy pants a inadequate set up is not justification to totally blacklist it entirely.
If you don't like fancy pants, don't play it. Don't try to ban it for everyone else, some of whom actually like it.

So... You care about points they earn? If banning setups, is it your opinion?, makes people who don't want to try play unranked games nothing is going to change apart from they don't earn points. I don't see why would anybody care about Zombies farming their way to HoF
no there are tonnes of variations and depending on how many people are playing sets the ratio of maf to town. Also pls stop defending these setups, they should be abandoned as soon as you have a general feel for the game. Literally just make a fp lobby and everyone wins
Actually, contrary to popular belief, people that don't care all that much will just join any open red heart game. The only reason they don't join the gold heart games is because they're intimidated.
Fun fact; most players are capable of effort and some of the "tryharding veterans" actually pay very little attention to the game.
Also, don't mix up than and then itg, it looks /awful/.
but unranked still exists and they are free to play as many 'fun' setups as they want
Hearts should be solely competitive.
if they wanna play FP and Classic let them play unranked. if they come here to have fun then the points shouldn't matter than amirite

Banning setups doesn't solve anything. Provided you ban fancy pants and classic, new lack-of-thinking setup comes. If you ban it, they create 5 other setups etc. If you ban them all nobody is going to play mafia here. It's not right to disallow people playing setups they want to play just because you find them bad.
Not everyone enjoys participating in 1-hour-game, not everyone enjoys trying hard, scumhunting etc. Let's call them here "Zombies". If you ban all thinkless (zombie) setups (let's say it's possible), 2 situations are going to occur: 1) Zombie leave (you may like it, lucid does not) 2) Zombie affect your setups making them unplayable by massive lurking, random lynches etc. Have you forgotten when you cried at the devastation of virgin setup's payouts not long ago?
Of course, some of the Zombies actually will improve their skills. It's not profitable, though.
It's not fancy pants or classic which is a problem. The problem is players' attitude towards game in general. Provided you have 7 good, hardtrying players, the game may be fun even in classic.
The only reason you can ban Fancy Pants for is it's broken and sometimes town autowin D1 occurs (that's why you should bun Who Watches the Watcher, by the way).

Actually it did. And it wasn't even a core mafia set up like classic is.

Banning RM did not scare the people away.

Banning *the* most popular set up on Epicmafia.com will not encourage players to try new set ups, but encourage players who love fancy pants to simply leave and find an alternative site.
Some people come to EM to play challenging scumhunt set ups, which is perfectly fine, but there is a large part of the community that comes to enjoy playing a quick and light game of mafia, and there's nothing wrong with that either.
If you do not want to play fancy pants or classic, you don't have to play it. But don't punish the countless other players who do enjoy fancy pants by blacklisting it simply because you don't prefer it. :/
Thing most of people miss is that a lot of the people on here aren't playing mafia for any semblance of competitive play, they're doing it because they've got free time and it's easy.
Thus, people will always find a reverse, classic mafia, fancy pants-esque setup to play.
Probably a bad idea but I was thinking about something along the lines of "setup exhaust" where a setup could only be played X amount of ranked times per lobby per day before being reset every night or something. I have no idea what the stats are but what if the main lobby was only able to play fancy pants a total of 150 times per day. I'm sure people would just move onto playing classic and coco's but it would push for more diversity in setups played. There are flaws with this idea though.
