Steven, complaining would do literally nothing at this point after a long time. You'd need to clean the whole mod team and restart from stratch if you want to start fixing the communication and all, and that's nearly impossible by my experience so there's nothing anyone can do except try to remember to know how you should be treating people - which won't happen in this community.
Your wrong Slow. Moderatros should not be out friends. They are like gods. They lead from high above the ground and if we dont agree with something they should leave and be replaced. You idea is bad. Mods should not be friends with the users and Equal. You know who else wanted everyone to be Equal?
Socialism.
P.S. Of course pranaya would agree with you. He will agree with any mod if this is what he is after.
P.S.S Moderatorship in other sites Sucks, because mods ban you on the moment you say something bad about them. They are like a jail, where the mods pretend to be equal but hit you with whips in the meantime.
P.S.S.S Forum moderators are nice thing, but they are joke. This site you can have free will. With forum moderators you cant. I personally hate forum moderators. They are like Hitler.

I'm actually still a mod because I enjoy the handful of users who openly thank me and also from knowing that I'm helping the community whether they know it or not
TL;DR Most mods join the mod team thinking it will be fun to have some power. It's not. And they make mistakes. The userbase feels victimized often and retaliates when they do, even when the mods are just being human. The "us vs them" does indeed exist, but not exactly in the way you mention. It's much more of a two-way street, and I do believe there's things you and the mods can do other than just stand there and complain about the complainers. The people complaining are human too, and often just want to "set things right" in the website or "free it from corruption", only that unironically. And yes you don't have to read all of the other 3 posts that were mostly a stream of consciousness. All I'm saying is I feel you, but I wouldn't say the problem is only the userbase, though in part it is.
I mean, I personally think the burden should be on the "professionals" to try their best to keep the peace, even when thrown insults and all. There's only so much you can do, but it's much harder to argue with someone that says "Sorry about X happened, me and some mods are going to discuss this and see what we can do. If a mistake has been made, we apologize and we'll correct it and hope it doesn't happen again", than someone that says "uhh dude you totally gamethrew there, appeal it if you think I'm wrong" or whatever it is. Obviously I just made those up but the point is, even when the other side isnt polite, if you're polite it's harder for things to escalate, It won't work all the time ofc, especially here, but perhaps it'll help. Most important though is for the rules and the mod system to be made simpler/consistent/structured further and things like
that to stop happening, because it completely eliminates any sense of authority you have. And that's what makes the moderators in other websites untouchable, everyone either respects them or knows their place. There's no "friends with the mods" stuff, and almost all the users that are moderators are respected and know their stuff. Did you ever hear of any moderator doing stuff like account sharing or outting alts? Perhaps because EM is still fairly small, those things happen often, and it just gives the sense that "the moderators are just some kids who dont even know better than me".
But this just isnt the way in epicmafia. Mods make mistakes all the time, and sometimes refuse to accept it until after the drama starts. Appeals in other websites go to "higher" moderators, but there is no hierarchy here. We have a system where if a user thinks two mods are terrible, and coincidentally has their reports done by them, cannot appeal further, which leads to a lot of frustration. It is worse if these two mods are friends and always messing around in the forums, because it gives the impression that they could care less about the user or something. Anyway, that coupled with the fact that this is mafia (where lots of frustration happens and people often think they are smarter than everyone else), complaints here blow up. People can't just keep it civil. But can you really blame them? Mods treat users just as badly back
Sad to see you go Slow, you were one of my favorite mods right now. As for what you said though, there's a few things I want to mention. Note that while I sympathize with you, and agree modding in epicmafia, or perhaps websites in general, sucks (really, it does, idk why people keep applying), some of the things you said are half-truths.
Basically that. I don't really know any websites or forums where the mods and users mingle happily. Of the few websites I know, seeing a moderator post is 90% of the time official business, whereas here you see them circlejerking just as much as any other user, so if anything it's the opposite of what you said in epicmafia. What you don't have in other websites is people constantly arguing with the mods, because let's be real, mods are supposed to know the rules better than the users, it would be pointless to do so.
hey jasprar + vancy, it seems like the day image (graphical version day background) got replaced by the start-day icon, could you guys possibly help me find the original image? just email me the image once you find it, thanks a bunch!
If mods get to act superior (Vancy), then us "lower class users" should be able to to hold ourselves from kissing the feet of the self-proclaimed elites (Vancy).
Smorlicious, I don't expect people to respect people because 'they are mods', but because they are people. And if people think 'respect' is too big a word, at least I think they should treat other people in a decent way :)
