West Coast Real Estate

almost 11 years

I've decided that within the next 10 years that I want to relocate out of NY because it's cold and expensive.

I'm planning on visiting San Diego and possibly LA some time in May and would like to visit different areas up and down the coast over the next few years to see where I could ultimately move to after I've gained enough experience to be able to more easily get a job in a new market.

Since I know there are people on the site who are from this part of the country, I was hoping some of you could provide insight.

The only things I am not about are too cold, too rural or "cookie cutter" type communities where the most ethnic thing to eat is Taco Bell or Panda Express. (I've heard parts of LA can be like this)

Things I like: Food, warm, reasonably affordable MBA, good job markets, affordable apartment/housing, public transit

Thanks guys, appreciate the help.

if you like warmth don't go to san francisco go inland but not like valley area cus thts hot but like the bay/coast where sf is reaches like low 30s/40s i think and never gets much hotter than 80

but inland has rlly nice weather its like low 40s in winter and 80s/90s in summer

Washington + Oregon has the best climate. Mild winters with rain at worst. The summers are literally perfect usually being around 80 F.

San Francisco is great and it is the only acceptable place to live on the West Coast. Every other city sucks.

Don't listen to him, California is trash.

The pacific northwest is the best place to go.

You've got the wrong idea if you're looking to move to somewhere inexpensive

All of California can't be more expensive than NYC though.

Washington looks promising although if they have bad winters there I don't think I'd like it much.

Seattle is about the only city I'd consider living in if I moved to America.

I'm there currently, yeah. Seattle: temperate, no income tax, highest literacy rate in America, most "politically-correct"

Pretty much exactly why I'd happily live there.

@Gist - yeah I'd need to be somewhere where corporations like to hang out since working in HR means I need to be in a place large enough for a business to house its support services.

This doesn't look super terrible, but pretty comparable to NY. Alright, Portland is out.
