West Coast Real Estate

about 10 years

I've decided that within the next 10 years that I want to relocate out of NY because it's cold and expensive.

I'm planning on visiting San Diego and possibly LA some time in May and would like to visit different areas up and down the coast over the next few years to see where I could ultimately move to after I've gained enough experience to be able to more easily get a job in a new market.

Since I know there are people on the site who are from this part of the country, I was hoping some of you could provide insight.

The only things I am not about are too cold, too rural or "cookie cutter" type communities where the most ethnic thing to eat is Taco Bell or Panda Express. (I've heard parts of LA can be like this)

Things I like: Food, warm, reasonably affordable MBA, good job markets, affordable apartment/housing, public transit

Thanks guys, appreciate the help.

Not really. Depends where you are in England.

The state of Oregon alone is bigger than the entire U.K, I find that doubtful.

Also: No School Shootings (pretty much), everyone smokes Weed, gambling taxes are much much lower (and lotteries aren't even taxed), and you can get the cuisine of pretty much any country.

Corporate Culture is pretty solid in the UK. Brighton is within commuting distance of London and is also growing it's own business culture. What sector do you specifically care about?

If you move to Hoboken you won't want to leave. You got the city when you want it and good old Quiet North Jersey when you need it. I'll find some cheaper Condo, or apartment options for you and you can come check it out.

How long of a commute is it to Manhattan? I also work on the east side which is why I'm leaning more towards Queens atm. Would totally be down to check it out sometime though.

@Lashka, that's tempting. What's corporate culture like there?

It's more expensive than America, but you earn more. Also, free healthcare and more public services.

Yeah, but you can get a much larger house in the west coast for way less than a lot of housing in England.

As for work visas - if you've got a degree, we'll let you in, pretty much. Welfare states require lots of adults working to support them. Britain has an ageing population. The more working age skilled immigrants, the better.

True, healthcare is huge. I can't imagine it's easy to get over there though as a foreigner for work visa purposes.

Jazz, it's a crappy take out chain.

Actually Dan better idea. You move out west. You buy the booze on the cheap and you bring them back to Jersey and hang with Jazz as we look onto the city and enjoy the view from Hoboken.

Something tells me the booze isn't going to be much cheaper. I would like to check out Hoboken as a possible temporary living solution. I'm thinking about moving to Queens sometime in the next year since parts of it are relatively cheap for how close they are to Manhattan (especially compared to equidistant areas in Brooklyn)

@Calvin; too cold and too windy.

@Jazz; lol I don't think that's the best idea either.

@Jack; too cold and segregated.

@Lashka; isn't the UK pretty expensive too?

@Shane; key word "almost"

@Sharon; I'll check it out - thank you!

It doesn't matter if you're American or Canadian, we'll all one day unite as Cascadia.

By the way, living in most areas in California is almost as expensive as living in New York, esp. the bay area.

Ok Ok Ok. If you can't do the city. Find a nice girl and take her out west. But she has to be a real New Yorker so you always have a piece with you
