Retti, i think its pretty understandable that certain competitive players who're rather active in main are having a bad time, imo they'll just have to wait it out a little bit longer and see if things get better in games

^^ This ended up being a really good Main Lobby game. You guys missed out :^)

@Bronto
I'm not worried about being singled out if the comments have substance, so don't feel like you can't speak out.
I know it's only been going on for two days, and that the merge is still a very new thing. Again, like the Manchester United squad, they expected David Moyes to take the throne by storm and only felt like relieving him of his managerial position after a year had passed when they noticed no progression.
My problem is that, personally, I won't play a game if I don't know a single other player at the table. You've played with me and you know that I enjoy to converse as I play otherwise I don't really see much point in sitting at a table. The situation, from my experience, is that people are already packing up their bags and leaving.
Now I can't make a generalising and sweeping statement for the entirety of the competitive lobby, but I know that there will be others like me who share these thoughts. Over time, this will gradually see the end of most of the competitive players.
I'm just asking that we consider finding a way to nip this in the bud. Obviously, it seems like a no show though, and we're to attune to the new system in the most productive way possible.
Also, the Gallis/Hunter weekends were a great laugh, so I'm not sure what issue you had with them?
As a training lobby native since the creation of this account, I have noticed little to no difference in the merge. Things have operated just like they always have. It's like mixing one drop of food coloring into a liter of water, imo, leaving only a negligible tinge with the rest of the water being fine.
why don't you try and play gold hearts and try and win, and then you'll see the point to this argument rather than taking a third person view on it all. It may seem all fine and dandy from the sidelines but put yourself in the heat of the action before you realise that your whole argument was pointless.
because this is a mafia website and the fact you're genuinely segregating people who are human and have personalities beyond 'that training idiot who got me lynched' is really sad
see? ad hominem

i don't get why you're still arguing harrold. the admins are so deluded in their decision being the correct one they're using ad hominems to justify their arguments. your logic won't break through to them because they think everyone who is against the merge has "a negative attitude" even though everyone here is speaking from experience.
the admins will not cater to the minority because the comp players are a minority compared to the training lobby players. even if eventually none of the old comp players remained it will be but 10% of site traffic if not less.
harrold right now: everyone is not as good as me, ugh, why cant people be as good as me? i miss competitive lobby where players were good
harrold two weeks ago, in competitive, as someone mishammered in their game: WTF WHY DID U MISHAMMER YOU SUCK YOU RUINED MY RUN YOU'RE SH*T COMPETITIVE IS DYING EVERYONE SUCKS
I don't think you're listening to a word. Not to mention the fact that I don't even run, so I'm not sure why you're discrediting my opinion by attacking my character.
im using you as an example of the horrible mindset that is plauging this thread now as you insist that competitive lobby was any better, when in reality
it wasn't.
Retti, you're actually just acting like a total douchebag and not solving any issues with any of your comments made. But you know, Potato/potato
i see no other issue than you complaining because you can't get along with others.
I didn't realise that I'd mentioned not being able to get along with other players.
you have sit here in this thread complaining that training players are ruining your games and that we need to go back to competitive because you dont have the decency to try and empathize with others

Well, that already happened hedger and i don't think we can do anything at this point to bring it back, and even though comp was a pretty fun time, we won't be seeing it in the near future. I feel like its our job now to contribute to changing of the environment in the Main Lobby, making sure that the lobby's standards progress and develop to those of competitive.
This is the right attitude to have.

yeah i can guarantee that the possibility of comp lobby coming back in any variety is not going to happen. so it's more productive to discuss how to handle the present.
Again, this is a very idyllic situation for everyone involved. Though, a lot of these sentiments fit well on to paper, much like that of the Manchester United squad, but look at them perform and it's not so charming.
My point is that players, like myself, do not have the patience to embrace every single game with this mentality.
I'm not really sure what to tell you here, and I feel bad because I feel like you're getting singled out a bit here, but what I've noticed is that a lot of people complain about something and want it changed, then as soon as it happens and isn't exactly how it's envisioned, they want it changed back (see Gallis Hunter weekends, splitting/merging the lobbies over the history of the site, etc.)
Competition has been going for two days, the merge is a little over a week old. It's going to take some time for things to adjust. Just be patient and have an open-mind.

There was an EM before the merge, unironically, for those who don't know. Before the merge, EM had the same "issues" regarding the talent/skill of those playing in the merged lobby, so we split. Since then, new players joined and stuck to training, while older players stayed in competitive and slowly left.
TL;DR - the split should of never happened back then and we are fixing that now

That can change though. Culture change always takes time. This merge wasn't meant to be a quick fix, it's a long-term solution that will take a long time to see true benefits and change.
My advice is to try and teach newer players and help them along. I learned simply from being exposed to better players and asking them for help or for their explanations on certain things. It helped a lot.
And if they refuse to play in Main Lobby then they're making their views on the lobby a self-fulfilling prophecy. I agree with Slow that it's better that the games aren't so heavily influenced by meta and are less "circlejerky".

Hate that you had to bring up United in your post.

I can't see why it would be so difficult to explain things to training players. And if you want fun mafia games, just play fun setups in red hearts. :-)
deletedabout 10 years
then don't play. you need to try and get along with people instead of asking for your own secret club so you and your friends dont have to deal with those horrible training players ruining games.
