While Lucid is gone, I'm going to start making a few lists of stuff for him to investigate once he gets back. To start, let's talk about sl0nderman's least favorite kind of role: alignment swapped roles.
What roles, new or old, deserve to have alignment-swapped counterparts? A lot of the new roles have been village and could use some mafia versions. What about the vice-versa of that? What about the rare third-party alignment swap?
I'll start: I think Monkey and Jailkeep could both use mafia versions.
Monkey is stronger than toreador. It stops investigator, saver and many other roles to do their job. It redirect kill and steal information. The only thing toreador does better is stealing items, which maf monkey can just make their partners getting those items instead. If you toreador an investigator, ur dead. If u toreador a killing role, ur dead
I understand if the site shouldn't be balanced around closed setup games, but I think having alignment swap characters for almost everything really degrades the gameplay experience.
the problem here is that sandboxers tend to use setups that don't discriminate between roles at all the roles themselves won't do anything sandbox just needs better setups e.g. no setup with every single role including those 5 blue variants that nobody wants to play
I understand if the site shouldn't be balanced around closed setup games, but I think having alignment swap characters for almost everything really degrades the gameplay experience. Instead of having to think about their claims, mafia just have to claim their town counterpart and cross their fingers. Instead of having to use reports, clears, and deductive reasoning, a lot of the game just boils down to he said she said. A lot of games can be solved with a few solid pieces of information, and unwinding the riddle is a rewarding part of the gameplay experience. Alignment swap roles muddy the water and make those pieces of information less and less frequent. When every single report could have a mafia counterpart, reports are functionally useless.
that just ruins the whole point of having a gun if everyone is protected
They're protected once, so you can still very much kill people It'd probably work better if vests stack with it in play though
in theory it would work but its an antifun role better mechanic would be it randomly selects two people one that gets a gun and one that gets a vest but would never work in ranked due to lol random.
Speaking of alignment swaps i think politician and nomad need a remake. What kind? Not sure. I think nomad should just be aligned with the person who they visit rather than showing their target's alignment. ie nomad is aligned with admin instead of village or something. (so they don't know their actual alignment but have to read them to know how to help them)
For politician i feel like he shouldn't have any alignment specific, he just wins if he's alive when the game ends so people have to swoon them and stuff. basically a vivor with 2 votes i guess. maybe he can be revealed to the whole town?? idk
also maybe a maf sided mason where they can make non visiting village roles into traitors :doge:
i know this is a joke but its a good idea actually.....maf that doesnt do anything or attend meetings but still counts towards the win condition :thonk:
