This is mostly directed at Lucid ofc.
I know perhaps it is a bit early, but ultimately it's down to one person's decision, so I'm curious what the intention of the filter is. I know my understanding of what the filter would be was to be used against racial slurs, the worst of the worse. You know the ones. Words 99% of users will never even say. I figured I wouldn't even be aware the filter existed, since it was supposed to be targeted at hate speech. So... I was pretty thrown off when I found out I couldn't say "d00k." I feel like this was kinda a "gotcha" especially since this was going to be a "racial slurs" filter and not a "language" filter. I saw the list given to you (https://pastebin.com/Z6B0hbJn), and instead of going with those, you seem to have initially gone with a more general "language censorship" approach, which worries many of us. I assume you're going to fix that it currently chances "spicy" to "pear-y" and "Pakistan" to "Bananastan," so I'm not even going to ask about this.
Now I get that "b000h" and "d00k" can both be namecalling words, but this is what reports are for, no? I wouldn't even call them particular hateful words. Even "c00t" is a word that is though of as particularly taboo in the US to older people, but this connotation isn't the case (as I understand) in most English-speaking countries. "w000e" which is currently allowed, had very ugly specific (and arguably mysogynistic) connotation. I'm totally not saying "put who*e on the not allowed list." I'm just wondering... what direction are we going in, man? I assume you have some idea.
Now personally, from what I've seen, people don't like this change (or the whisper thing, but that's a completely different post. I really don't think anyone is seriously pushing you to allow racial slurs or whatnot. From what I've seen personally, it seems like overstepping when we are censored when casually cursing, which happens a lot. From what I've seen, EM users GENERALLY tend early 20s to even early 30s. Some late teens, yeah, but unless they're HIDING, I rarely see people below 17 from what I've seen. I don't know if this filter is perhaps because you want to move the site into a more family/conservative direction.
My personal experience on the site, up until now, is that, in addition to skewing older than many "game" sites, it is also very casual. Maybe that is because I play unranked? I don't know. However, in my experience, we love being joke-y, and often crude, and I'm still shocked how this site for whatever reason skews markedly LGBT+. A lot of us come here to relax and have fun and shoot the s00t. And I worry that one day it'll auto correct to "shoot the poopoo," especially when currently someone cant come on and complain that their boss is being a "b000h."
So I'm just kinda asking, what direction are we heading in?
