you don't need to understand THE PERSON behind the lines your reading (most of the time). you only need to understand what theyre communicating, and the intent of whatever they're communicating. no one knows anyone behind the screen. we only know their lines
i don't think social skills are a critical part. you make up for not having social skills by being very assertive and precise in your reads. it's a pranay mindset that you all find annoying but some of us have to play in such a manner

Boo is like completely different, i can see why you're saying cody and tatami play similarly, but boo is like not even in the same category of playstyle whatsoever
I'll be honest vilden I've always wanted to be a top player but a critical part of mafia is social skills and I just don't have the emotional intelligence for it, I'm bad enough at socializing irl which is why I spend all my time on a mafia website, so text chat is even harder. How do you tell what people are thinking or if they're legit.
then you know nothing about the playstyles of other people. they all share the same, slow paced, cerebral games that take them a few circles before actions happen

my brand of swashbuckling freshness died with bernin, flea and bronto, i'm the last of my forgotten clan.
oh i misread your post renaldo i thought you were saying the level of play today was lower than it was in the past
"level of play" as a concept in mafia is deceiving because the entire concept of WIFOM is based on playing on these different levels and seeing how the levels interact with each other. someone playing with a shallow, level 1 mindset can easily beat someone who's thinking too hard and playing on a much higher level. but then again the player playing on the higher level should be able to assess the other player and figure out what level he's playing on and adjust accordingly, so it ultimately comes down to your ability to win people to your side and influence them to your way of thinking
in my bio and you called my opinion 'perpetually horrific' which is basically how i feel about your scumhunting game + control of games
like, everyone agrees with that observation i made about you/cody/boo
I see the light now my brother, can you give me more tips on how not to play like a washing machine? Maybe go into one of my recent games and give me feedback?
i explained your flaws in my bio and you called my opinion 'perpetually horrific' which is basically how i feel about your scumhunting game + control of games

You think me/Cody/Solace play the same way I don't even know why I bothered replying to that your opinions are perpetually horrific.
solace and cody actually play pretty similarly, don't they?
That's fair, there's definite vet worship, but almost anyone and everyone will say that the quality and level of play used to be much higher. Is that possibly a function of the critic simply being better than they were when they were new? Yes, but it's undeniable that the way the game is played now is different than it was then.
quantity, sure. quality? that's actually something that's open to discussion imo. the idea of mafia gameplay quality actually recessing over time is really strange to me, but not entirely unreasonable. mafia isn't like a science where you can just keep building indefinitely on the body of work that's come before you, but rather more like a cycle in any mafia community where the meta jumps from point to point in the cycle somewhat unpredictably

It's hard to say who is the best player. Cause some players are better than others in certain situations. I think it should be done in subsections like
Best Scumhunter:
Best Townteller as town:
Best townteller as maf
Best hammerer in lylo:
etc..
If you're talking overall, I think soda does well at pretty much everything, and doesn't really have that much of a weakness in one particular area.
this is a much better way of listing players based on skill
