This website is far past the point where having ranked and unranked games in main lobby makes sense.
Both sandbox and main lobby suffer from this weird choice. Unranked games should go in sandbox, which will boost the ever slowing population of 12 person closed setups, and ranked games should go in main lobby.
Without the influx of unranked games being made, competitive games will not be second paged so fast, and thus fill more often, allowing more than 2 setups to be played each round.

who's to blame for that?

the mentor system is dumb and literally i've never seen a mentor inside a game helping someone. the last time i did was about a good 4-5 months ago. they also never keep up to date on it, so it's pointless. they should just eliminate it completely, or make new mentors and remove the old ones. I requested to be removed from tartosis so long ago and they still haven't done it.
Voidzz1mon 8d remove me from being a mentee, let me be a mentor

yeah but we don't want to be forced together, if people want to learn make a training lobby and make me a trainer or whatever
I don't know why everyone keeps implying that everyone is completely segregated from each other right now.
You literally have to click one button and you're in the other lobby.
We're all one website lol

They like mindlessly playing the same crappy setup over and over. Learning terrible habits.
shot in the dark
Also when I was in training I farmed reverse on a day to day basis
I mean closed setups are all the same but really they give a huge amount of variety, the only problem is that it's the *only* thing that people will play.
I was referring to fp. Also I play more than shot in the dark.
Also, I don't think anyone can truly be concerned over "crappy habits" or whatever when everyone is okay with double points + ranked SITD/Reverse Mafia/GallisHunter.

there's no reason to lock this. it's good.

That's not even the point anymore Voidzz. We're trying to discuss multiple solutions on how to improve the learning process on the site.

Those setups are detrimental to learning how to play mafia. They're introduction games.
yes they are crappy. But they like it.
They're detrimental but necessary* is what I meant to say.

the mentor system exists on a volunteer basis so there's absolutely no way to enforce their participation, let alone constant presence.
From my noavi thread:
Revamp the entire mentor system. The fact of the matter is that the mentor system does not get much attention, and you either have to actively seek out being a mentee, or be in a close relationship with your mentor, and at either point of time you'd likely have enough experience to not necessarily need one. My suggestion for this is rapidly increase the amount of mentors, but moreso let mentors add mentees without needing a mod to do it. That way, if new players are on the site, we can encourage people to link them to the mentor page to PM any of them to become a mentee, instead of constantly policy'ing them, reporting them, and publicly shaming them for not having experience.
This is just an idea, don't take this as the actual suggestion but it's something I would like to expand on and give a better more serious suggestion if it would be considered.
i like this. i think a lot of these problems that we're discussing could be resolved with a more solid, accessible, and expansive mentor program.

also. Why was this even brought up? what was wrong with the system as it is now? Why do we have to make new rules just so some user named kylo can up his ego and kick out players he sees as beneath him?
Yeah, and I understand that, but I'm saying we should try to think of a way that would be appealing for those players to want to branch out.
Something different than what's already there

Like if sandbox and main unranked players wanted to play together they would. They do not want to play together.

Like I said, they were just possible ideas. Obviously everything wouldn't work out as wonderfully as it sounds but it'd be nice.
I would be down to sit and mentor new players in their first games so that they could understand the basics.
If you absolutely feel the need to get rid of the 5 game minimum, at least include an introduction when a player creates a new account. Something interactive would be great. Possibly something that stimulates a real game play. That way they could at least get the basics.
