Hello Sandboxers. Lucid is interested in making new roles, and I know you guys have a bunch of good ideas, so what I'd like to do is get a list of all of the best ideas in this thread and have a poll that you guys can vote on for lucid to make.
On an unrelated note, if you guys know of any bugs with existing roles, please PM me so I can test it out and forward it to lucid so they can get fixed
if it's simple there's no need to focus on it; the whole point of this convo is to parse out the finer details of the more complex roles think critically
you say that like people aren't just gonna copy paste the duel challenge system message over night, or type up their own
losing the duel to out the duelist is also a pretty small price to pay for most town roles (ones that aren't particularly useful)
the role is just fundamentally broken, he will be prevented from winning by people skipping the duel to instead spam the system message if he gets close to winning
The challenged person will know who the Duelist is because the Duelist can only challenge during the day time. At night, they both receive their guns and the challenged person will get a status message telling them of the duelist.
Thats why the wills are concealed upon death, so that if the Duelist wins the duel, the challenged person, unless they somehow had the time to chat about it during the duel day (or if they just have a night meeting), will not be able to reveal who the duelist is.
That does bring up an interesting question in how hard it'll be for the duelist to win if they choose a mafia because during the night before the duel, the mafia could tell their partners who the duelist is, but great win balance isn't really that big of an issue here since horrid sandbox roles like Alien exists anyways.
then why would anyone put it in their setup? that's not something you have to worry about, that's up to people knowing how to make a setup that makes any level of sense
the reason the loser's will isn't revealed is because both parties are made aware of their opponent at night (of course, the duelist already knows, but their target will know who the duelist is)
you could limit the dropdown, but i think it makes the role more interesting if you have to find your target's name, and if you misclick and shoot the wrong person it's kinda like missing in a real duel
can you people stop putting "sided with the 3rd party" in your role description. 3rd party is not an alignment, it is the concept of lack of an alignment. just put the win condition at the end instead of an alignment like all the current 3rd party roles have. The fact that mistletoe has this in their official role description triggers me enough and is already inconsistent and confusing, we don't need it in more roles
When the mayor is killed, the next village meeting vote will be to elect a new mayor instead of a lynch Village and third party roles that win the election will be converted to mayor Mafia will die if elected mayor Sided with the village
the gun can miss if it's aimed at someone other than the dueling parties.
the challenged knows who they're dueling.
the targets shouldn't be limited because then it'd remove the skill factor in that both the duelist and the challenged person has to see who's the fastest at going through the shooting menu and finding their target.
if the other players are removed then there'd be less skill involved and just plain "who can move their mouse to the right of the screen the fastest".
that same rationale is why the gun shouldn't have a RNG when aimed at the right guy because if the point of the role is to test the skill of two players then adding RNG to it kinda meddles with that. the only reason RNG should be included is if you decide to remove all the other players from the list because then it'd at least add some difficulty back to the duel, but again that wouldn't be optimal to the fantasy.
Geisha -sided with the mafia -gives self a gun every night unless visited during the night -does not participate in mafia meetings -when investigated by cop, appears as inno -appears as naughty on santa reports -CAN be masoned or culted -won't die if shot during the day
it misses if targeting someone other than the people doing the duel and it shouldnt miss if its one of them. They must know who they are dueling in order to be able to aim right, and i guess the last question is that you cant do it so its harder for people to click right and not win straight out (thats how i interpret it anyways, maybe talking to foxie/cub for comfirmation is better)
For Duelist, can the gun miss? does the person challenged know who (s)he is dueling? why can't i just limit the targets in the Gun meeting dropdown box to only the opponent?
