I'm going to try and summarize the thoughts that have been swirling in my head for the past couple of months.

The mods are treated in the most disrespectful and toxic way that is completely unjustified. It amazes me how often I feel that the people who willingly take care of complaints and try (i say this heavily) to manage 60 reports on a normal basis somehow find the time and energy to put up with someone cussing them out or demanded they be demodded over a trivial matter such as a report outcome. I'm not saying that criticism isn't valid or that you shouldn't question some decisions, but the least you can do is be courteous. There was a reason laexio was so admired and it was that he made sure that the needs of the mods came before the needs of the players, because in reality, the mods are the backbone of the community. I can't make anyone agree with me, but understand how unsatisfying, how frustrating and how unnerving it can be to simply log onto epicmafia knowing that the community will always be against you. It is why the pool of mods is so staggeringly low.

The forums do not need to be moderated heavily, they serve a niche and are irrelevant to more than a quarter of the playerbase. The IC rule is broken and stupid. Google, or lucid for that matter, does not care about a couple of asteriks on the screen. They're a complete non-issue and it baffles me in the times I've been just a player that I've seen unneeded measures taken to control 'chaos' going on in the forums. The best solution is to let things die out because people get bored of hearing themselves talk, or posting badly for that matter.

The report system is abused and is inherently flawed. There is no reason for mods have to deal with 70-80 reports in a day. That is not a problem with the mods, that's a problem with the community. I've never been on a site where I've seen such a staggeringly high number of complaints in a single day. It sucks that things will always stay like this, but I bring this back to my original paragraph to the mods, and that you really do not give them the credit they deserve.

I want to condense this all and say this is my formal and public resignation from modding. These couple past months as a mod have been pure hell and I have lost all motivation and desire to go further. I enjoyed helping the community and doing my best to see to it that I did what I felt was right, but the strain is not worth it and I feel that all that effort I am putting into epicmafia modding could be put to better use. I had a goal of one day possibly being admin, but I don't think that is what I want or need to do for that matter.

Retti, no matter what site though, there will always be the idiot radicals who think everyone else running things is stupid and they are the only ones with a right opinion. :/ It's a shame that you resigned from the position just because of that. If it was the right decision for you and you are happy with it, that's great, and I hope you enjoy em as a regular player. I'm sorry people were so mean to you that you felt resigning would relieve you. But I just think that no matter what leadership position you're in, whether your the president or a moderator, you're going to get flack from someone.

The position of Moderator isn't for someone who wants to be popular and liked, its for someone who needs to keep order and get things done when no one wants to and even when people don't like it.

Yes you probably are. But is considering that inevitable good for the community? Nah. Retti is right to "whine", if you will, about the treatment mods get because it's an issue that needs immediate resolving, though such might be only partial because terribly immature people cease to be completely depleted.

If Retti has the right to whine about the community, then doesn't the community therefore have the right to whine about Retti?

I never said they did not. They're also entitled to whine as long as they don't get obscene or directly harass retti or any other moderator. I haven't seen any form of obscenity from retti in his post.

you don't know if they're trying their best to make this site better, some of them are just power hungry and couldn't care less about the need's/feeling's of a user on this site

God, why are you all taking this like he's just whining about his experience and that he just wants to be respected when you think he's not being respectful himself?!?!?!

Because either people are a huge troll on the forums or they enjoy insulting people as their own enjoyment. Unless the mods decide to take an action on all these sarcastic posts towards people, nothing will change. You shouldn't expect people to be nice if it is not stated in the rules.

I take it that what you're implying is that people are simply unable to think morally about what they do unless they're being enforced not to do it. I suppose that's quite the cynical thought albeit somewhat accurate to this site's community. Not everyone's capable of being nice when they're nor enforced to do so, but you're still entitled to ask them to.

Nobody was mean to me. My resigning was not based on how people were personally treating me, rather it was just something I wanted to do. I was burning out on doing reports as they're meticulous and boring. It was simply a matter of motivation.

I would honestly say I thought about sticking around as a mod because people were being so supportive of me. I've had nothing but good praises as my time as a mod and I liked the feeling, but I didn't want my modding to be just some sort of achievement that I could show off. I want to mod when I actually have the time and truly want to, and I'm not sure if that will ever happen again if the community doesn't change their outlook towards mods.

If this was the real reason, why not just say this instead?

If you can't understand common sense, I can't explain the logic on why you shouldn't insult people who are trying their best on making the site better and stable.

Pretty sure they do it out of anger, not because it's a good idea. But then again... people don't regret it so.

You are again ignoring the fact that this thread isn't really about me and I only made this as my public resignation because I wouldn't be able to make such as a post as a mod due to the amount of self-censoring you have to do on the forums. I intentionally made this thread to get publicity and hopefully change the mindset of a couple of users who think it's a good idea to personally insult or slander someone over a report outcome/decision.
