Training Round to Be Disabled

over 10 years

Dear Training Lobby,

I regret to inform you that I will be disabling the competition from Training Lobby after trophies are given out for this round.

Almost every round since its inception, there has been a major cheating investigation in the Training Round, some people have gotten away with it, and others have not. Participation has also waned considerably since its inception.

This does not mean the competition will be disabled permanently, but I will be disabling it for the time being. I'm hoping everyone can reconsider their actions and understand that we work very hard to keep the rounds clean, and it's simply becoming too much work for us to manage in addition to the Comp Lobby investigations (which are surprisingly less frequent).

Many of you who have won trophies in the Training competition or come close should strongly consider playing in Comp Lobby, the competition is more consistent there and the mod team is better equipped to handle issues there since competition is treated more seriously. You're all good enough to play there as well.

There is no current timetable for its return, but I will be disabling it after the round ends.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding, I am sorry it has come to this. I honestly liked the round and encouraging people to try new setups, but there have been a lot of problems associated with it so we need to give it a rest for now.

That's all on lucid. This isn't really in my control. All I can do is choose to enable certain features and control moderation that way.

Not sure, remember that the custom mods being able to give out sitewide violations could be also become an issue as a result of this.

Unfortunately, there isn't much for lobby mods to do (or can do) in a lobby run by site mods.

that is the problem, but maybe giving them the capability of handling game vios in their lobby (not community vios) could be an option? Make the violations trackable from custom lobbies so the 8 vio rule only applies to community vios + vios given from official lobbies.

The lobby mod system is incomplete though. They cannot apply vios, we cannot see who handled the reports, having them do reports as we saw with Trial Mods lead to a host of problems and extra headaches for global mods who would ultimately end up going through the reports anyway to make sure that the violations were being applied correctly.

Stratification isn't the optimal solution here.

I ran only once in Training, and close to never in Comp.

Try again, Satan. That's not the reason.

the only reason people are fighting against the removal of the training competition is for easy trophies.

I've never attempted to trophy in my EM life. I play training comp games, but I don't seriously 'run' like others do (i play for other reasons), so tell me more about your wildly incorrect assumptions about every single person who wants a training lobby competition. :)

That's what the global moderators are for. At the moment, there are much too many trying to do everything, which clearly isn't working. They have too much to do and are being overwhelmed. As you like to reiterate time and time again, they're only volunteers who don't have that much time to put in, so give them less to do and keep globals that do have the time to fill in where needed.

Tell me HOW this will TRAIN people to go to Comp.

Have a good day.

Learn the basics, make the move to competitive, try playing gold hearts there. Read the strats and ask for help from mentors and more experienced players on how to play setups.

This isn't something I can do. Ask Lucid.

And having the mod team specializing in separate areas would make for a more efficient mod team that could do the work of many without having to try and do literally everything.

If the "specialist" mod goes inactive or away, it throws everything off though. The system crumbles. That's why communal responsibilities work better so long as everyone does what they're supposed to. Specialist roles aren't the solution here.

A SEPARATE mod team for each lobby (whether there are 2 or 3 lobbies) that is REPRESENTATIVE of each lobby. Someone who only plays in Training heading Training reports. Someone who only plays in comp heading up comp reports. The type of report made and strategies used in the two lobbies are extremely different and need mods who are 100% familiar with those plays to mod them. Right now, it's like like having a Russian as President heading a Government of French people in Spain - not representative nor appropriate and mod-player relations are non-existent. People wanna see a name they recognise on their mod team - as a training player, I'd say I've only heard of maybe half of the current mod team as a lot of them are from comp. I think more representative teams are needed.

Stratification is bad though. We should be moving towards one unified community, not two separate ones that are almost identical physically. The only difference is that Comp players are more experienced and have been around longer than Training players. Their competitions are basically identical other than that way less people participate in Training (look at the number of games - they are much lower than in Comp). There's no reason to split it up further when Training was built as a stepping stone for competitive play to learn basics.

The best way to learn Comp is to play in Comp or with play with people who have played a lot in Comp. Like some people have said, Training competition encourages people to stay.

We are one EpicMafia. We shouldn't be trying to split things up more.

this has already been tried as "gold," "silver," and "bronze." it did nothing but split the community and actually created the sense of elitism people might see in competitive lobby.

training had a competition before the latest implementation, back in 2011 (iirc) and no one complained when the admin took it down back then. the only reason people are fighting against the removal of the training competition is for easy trophies.

We're in 2014, Satan... I REALLY doubt things are the same as 2011 (or before)

sorry that post was written when i first woke up. to be clear. back in 2011, training lobby gave MEDALS, not TROPHIES. the only reason people are making a big deal about it now is because the training competition is giving away TROPHIES which are also given in the comp lobby competition.

You may be right about some, Satan. But that doesn't deny the fact that training lobby isn't going to live up its name anymore. Training lobby is for training yourself to go to comp, and what better way than for it to have its own competition?

there won't be any reason to move from training to comp if there's a comp in training

people are fighting against the removal of training competition now because removal of training comp makes the only setups played in training lobby classic and fancy pants.

training comp made players play other setups; isn't this something you want so new players can gradually learn new mechs/etc that they need to learn before heading into comp?
