Post Unbanned Cheaters' Accounts

over 10 years

When players who were banned for cheating are let back into either of the competition-running lobbies, they should undergo a probationary period during which they lose privacy rights for all accounts, be they linked alts or clean-slate mains. The mods can set up a thread with a list of all accounts held by recently unbanned cheaters and either (a) consistently monitor users who have made the list or (b) install a simple account approval process whereby failure to inform the mods of newly registered accounts constitutes a violation of the rules.

This might be worth a go for any game-related ban, not just cheating, but that would probably involve a lot more maintenance.

people who aren't on probation won't have their name announced any more..... their names are removed from the list......?

Well I came up with this in the mod chat:

We could make a thread listing users CURRENTLY on probation, the report(s) that show why, and any alts they have (no privacy during probational period). It'd be a locked thread so there's no public shaming, and not a public branding which is over the top imo. But if you are suspicious of someone you can refer to said thread and inform yourself.

That is 100% identical to what I suggested in the OP.

erm awkward. yea i read the comments more than the OP i guess, which have suggested harsher regulations.

I fail to actually see what this achieves.

I'm not arguing with former cheaters keeping their alts hidden; I'm arguing against a notification when you join a cheaters game or look at their profile. If that wasn't clear.

There's no difference in principle between these two options. You're opposing the more efficient option because you can't stomach the idea that some people who are more inclined to publicly chew out cheaters will theoretically have an easier time doing so.

im sorry but if you want to know if someones cheated go look it up in the reports. its just not needed to be announced publicly

public shaming is not nice no matter the offense

cheating isn't nice

lets shame those few that have actually reformed

those who have reformed will have their shame removed at the end of the probationary period, obviously

its openly known that ive cheated in the past + i don't get slammed for it but people here will gang up on someone if every cheater is announced publicly. it's better to be left how it is with a probation period?!??

That was uncalled for, I'm sorry. He was annoying as hell when I conversed with him though.

Having Cheating be the only violation that is visible to all on a player profile and having it stay there after it's expired for a certain amount of time seems fair. Lucid would have to allow the Cheating violation to be visible on alts too, though, something's he's always been against.

Edit: The mods should have an automatically updated list too.

Former cheaters actually playing on a single account is a fine idea.

for instance, the first cheater i remember encountering was wendys (before the ban). i didn't think she was a bad person, just kind of pathetic.

My impression of former cheaters when joining was that they were blackhearted and avoid-at-all-cost material.

Yes. That was your impression, which you developed on your own, because you are your own person. No one forced that idea down your throat just by telling you that those people were cheaters.
