a lot of people don’t choose to be offended it’s just a visceral reaction they have to certain vocabulary it’s just how their mind works. I know it’s easy to rectify all this debate in your head with a simple answer because your knowledge of the world is very limited but it’s simply just not that simple. If the solution was “just don’t be offended!” then it would have happened by now dude
Honestly, I have seen people on this site call me many things (most of which they don't understand what my situation is) in a hateful way. But I do not take offense, and it does not change my mindset unless if that person makes a physical change, such as making a meta to lynch me d1 every game. That is basically general hate versus targeted hate (harrassment).

banning words is not the solution
I've always been of the opinion that if you say 'frick' but you mean 'fúck' you actually said fúck

it's pointless to sugar coat a pile of dogshít

Good thing I already got my 2 notes and 3 vios for HC before that.

there is no top-down approach to racism because it's about human behaviour. I find it sadly amusing that people actually believe in the HAH NO SLURS RACISM IS CANCELLED story

the Infamous “maybe you shouldn’t be offended” argument instead of just advocating for, idk, human decency
maybe just avoid being offended until it is actually hate, rather than something that refers to you that you don't like
to be fair you could also make the argument that the n word 'refers to' a black person, it still is a word rooted in hatred and I'm fairly certain most of us here have a problem with the n word

don't we?
It can refer to anyone nowadays. regardless of history, it has been socially fixed to mean a friend or a set of people in general. Take Mr. Moreno's example in this instance.
whew.

banning words is not the solution either because language isn't restrictive in options. In fact, users of slurs are in some cases (say, using the word to make an argumentative point) less racist than those unironically believing in and propagating racist stereotypes, and holding biased opinions towards certain races.

Jeff I'm not going to comment on you commenting on me commenting on what you say, honestly, I'm not a boor.

just make me admin and I'll be supreme ruler of EM, no mods, nothing, just anarchy and my occasional random banning of people I don't particularly like
deleteddeletedalmost 8 years ago
Let's just overthrow the corrupt Moderators and enact a Tribunal system instead, let the proletariat rise up and reclaim EM's former glory.

okay, but just saying your supposed f-slur isn't necessarily hateful, it is just achknowledging you as something. i mean, there is more about you than being gay, and you don't necessarily like that particular word for instance, but that does not mean that it is hate or harrassment.

Personally I don't really like the word rétard but it just fits so aptly, if someone can give me an equally usable word I would gladly use that instead
