I haven't seen this discussed in-depth for a while, so I thought I'd make a thread now.
What does everyone, both new users and old, think about where the site is now, the direction its taken over the time you've been here, and the direction it's taking now?
What do you think of the community and how it's changed? What do you think of Sandbox lobby itself, or any of the other lobbies for that matter? What do you think of the moderation of the website?
What about the game of Mafia? Does it still have replayability factor for you? Is it functional? Do you still come back for the website because of it or do you do it for something else?
Some parts of the community are just full of total wankers. Main Lobby (yes, boo, hiss, main lobby) is filled with trolls, idiots, and people that will throw against you if you offend them somehow...
And I think the game should add test mode / offline mode so people can control every actions by themselves for mechanic testing purpose or for their high level autism
One thing I would suggest is that there be a way to see descriptions in closed role games. In open role you can hover over to see the description but that's not so in the closed role. I feel that it would help new players a lot if they were able to see exactly what they needed to do without having to go to the training page all the time. Sorry for the long post. I have such mixed feelings about the website. The community has changed so much and is something lucid truly needs to re-look at even though I know he won't. The site has lost so many great players and people because of this and I know that they won't be back, which is heartbreaking. But it does have an addictive something to it driving even the players that hate it to come back. So meh, I think any hope to make it better is lost, but it still has its good points. TL;DR It sucks, but it's got that nostalgic charm to it. It's never been bad enough to leave forever
I have been here for nearly 8 years now under different accounts and I must say, the awe that I had when I first came to this site has since worn off. Maybe it was because I was young or because the community was different but while some parts of this site have greatly improved, I think that the overall quality has decreased. The community has definitely changed. As everyone knows, 2013 completely changed the community. The influx of tumblr players did not sit well with the players who had come from other sites and I feel like there's still a bit of a divide today. While I do enjoy some of the rules that have been implemented (as for certain slurs and such) I do think that they've also taken some of the rules way too far. The rules that are in place are not followed religiously and many players are let off that definitely should not be let off. This has been a problem forever, but it is sad to see it not being fixed. Also, everything that happened this past summer with letting the banned users become mods and all of the different infiltrations that took place along with the hacks shows that lucid doesn't really care much about the site anymore. I do feel that if he still came to the site to get insight (and maybe he does but I just wasn't getting on when he was) it could be a much better community. If he doesn't want to manage it, he should just sell it already. I don't know the current moderation since I took a break, so I cannot comment on them too heavily. As for the game, I cannot say much has changed. Perhaps it's the only thing keeping me on the site. Though others seem to think that the mechanics should be changed, I like the fact that it has stayed the same as it's been since 2010. It's a simplistic format and even though I still feel that there are WAY too many roles, as long as you can learn them the game itself is easy to learn. Also, with the doxing that went on this past year, the actions taken and the punishment given should've been higher.
Personally for me it's gotten a bit too much SJW. You can't call someone a noavi without a SJW breathing down your back ready to gallis pop you each game. And you can't even shout out that you're virgin in game because people will assume you're virgin irl and make comments about it.
Bring back the policy lynching, bring back the days when we we're going to build a wall between main and sandbox and not more bloody bridges with free tokens to new members, lastly bring back games that have more players in them then the lobby chat does.
there's good and there's bad. There tends to be a toxic userbase that's just small enough that it actually matters but hey, I just hope I'm not considered a toxic one :^) I really appreciate a lot of people here and the games are the best part of the site.
Yeah I got really sick of it too, but never really had problems finding servers with variety. I only ever played on servers with real map voting, though even those liked to play de_dolls way too much.
I can't speak for the new players, but I feel like this game looks like some sort of social dwarf fortress to them. Everything is IRC style, people use terms they've never heard before, and they get lynched if they don't have an avatar. It must be very off putting.
