It's very egotistical but for the sake of clarity I will say that I would put myself as in the top 3 with Girallon/Maxwell, with no definite order as we haven't played enough to gauge. I can't accurately evaluate that, but it's my opinion and matchups against others generally considered the best seems to reinforce that.

system is actually good, and has reasoned reads as to human mechanics, but i made him cry in the last forum mafia game i played with him
well, to be fair they were cheaters previously, doesn't mean they actively cheat now. also a lot of those cheaters probably cheated in their teens when they needed to feel accomplished by getting a pixel trophy
system overload is number 1, no one else comes close

no, i think that in a stacked game town wins. i think those dudes played stacked games. connor gets sick percentages in runs when he plays with kerry too. i think the smaller, more actually mafia-based community gave those exaggerated scores. but soben was obviously better than dave
Im really having a hardtime taking comp seriously when apparantly more than half the mod team are confirmed cheaters... wonder how many non-mod cheaters there are...
Minor correction: Gira holds the post 2013 record with catbae.
what
Compare the leaderboards. Do you really think that Fantastic and Effulgence and Soben are a full 6% win better than Connor/Girallon?
To put that into perspective, 5-6% is the difference between Gerry and the average player, or between the second worst player you can think of and EpicSides. Do you really believe Effulgence to be not only better than Connor, but so much so that the gap is equivalent to between Connor and maymay?
Earlier winrates are almost certainly inflated. If you don't think so, you're basically saying that if the average level stayed the same, almost every single one of the absolute best players came in the first 10k, and were not only the absolute best but were a full 6-10% than any of the best to come after them.

Winrate deflation is a thing, and a 60% winrate now (Something Connor has consistently achieved) is a lot more impressive than a 65% winrate in 2010.

maxwell and soben were the only good players while i was active. dave was a powerhouse in that there was no way you were going to lynch him, he was plain violent in games, and which he has since lost, and as a result he's just not good anymore lol. everyone else was about the same. brownpimp was a gimmick, people voted with him just because. 'yes we can' obama sort of sht. but he wasn't good. shivv was alright, had some of dave's violence for a while. but nobody really stood out besides maxwell and soben.
i mean dave got one %hof spot and a few bronze trophies, soben got like 6 %hof spots and i don't know how many clear golds. i think he had the biggest win/loss percentage for any round too so far as i can remember
dude some of the big banned users are pretty good at this game even though it's hard to tell when they're cheating. rednose, weareking, prevail and roshiez all have a good aggressive play styles.
we had a thread and poll comparing dave and soben years ago and dave got like 1 vote and soben like 50
Couple of factors went into that. One is touched on in the above posts, the game on average is simply better than it was prior, and most of the top players now are better than the top players before minus a few outliers (ex. Girallon/Maxwell still dominate every player who joined post 2012).
Another is simply that Connor is so much better now than he was in 2011/2012. Soben was better than Connor in 2011/2012 no doubt, but Connor has since made himself a strong candidate for one of the best players of all time by posting ridiculous winrates consistently, and against the top players of the times. Winrate deflation is a thing, and a 60% winrate now (Something Connor has consistently achieved) is a lot more impressive than a 65% winrate in 2010.
For reference, Connor has likely posted the highest recorded winrate of any player active post 2013. Abe posted a flat 60% for awhile, and I posted about 63% for a 6 month stretch before dropping to about 60% as a newer generation of players fostered and older ones simply got sharper and learned to handle me. Criterion for the 60% mark: At least 10k points.
1. Maxwell 2. Girallon (Really interchangeable with Max-forums Max is hands down better but Gira might be better suited for EM, it's been too long since I've seen Max) 3. Connor 4. Anthony 5. Turquoise 6. Radiohated 7. Soben 8. Jaguar 9. mangofruit 10. SystemOverload
Some of these names are strange but are on a different level when they tryhard-ex. most people would not be that impressed just playing any regular game with turq/Connor/mango but when they try they easily match up with the best.
People who probably would be on the list but I did not have enough meaningful games with them: Crypto, Fantastic, Shivv
Honorable mentions: Fading, soda, Gerry, Goodbar, Slow when he tryhards, Insanoflex, Riot when he tryhards
I'm really glad to see I'm on top of Soda's list though, as someone who you struggled to recognize as a good player for a long time (Throwback to those initial interactions as Tatami)
I want to comment on a few of the names people have thrown out: Veiexku cannot really compare to any modern players, the best way I can think to describe him is maybe a worse Hedger. He was fantastic for the time and one of the greatest but EM's level was collectively a lot lower in 2010 than it was in later years. He actively played on alts and struggled to consistently win against some of the better names of 2011/2012. He was a wonderful player for the era, though.
I suspect that many of the players were like that, ex. biggest names being Veiex and Slyintine. Even Maxwell who is likely EM's closest equivalent to Michael Jordan in terms of greatness. He went on to continue his domination at a higher level through forum games on MS so his is probably the least suspect. Soben and Fantastic would likely be candidates for best active, but it is impossible to tell after such a long period of inactivity and no way to measure.
It is worth noting that Jaguar experienced something similar, he is still ranked in my top 10. He had Maxwell-level domination for years but struggled to stay at the top during his activity in 2011/2012.
